BarFly's Review of A & L Pub
A sports bar, technically - and a Steelers bar during Sundays in the fall - but, with fun bartenders and a mixed-use crowd, liquor, games, cheap bar food nudging excellence and enough sheer space ... I'm not sure the girls quite notice. 3 digital wall projection TVs, 2 large screen TVs, 13 total. Call ahead and reserve a screen for your team. 9 Direct TV dishes, 2 satellite dishes and cable. Ping pong, pool x3, electronic darts x2, steel tip darts x8, pinball and arcade games. Just 2 blocks south of 60th Ave. MAX station.
Biddy McGraw's
I've frequented A&L both during the day - focused on food - and night - focused on sports and drinking! Great servers like Brian, Marco & Joanie. The food here is better than most bar fare. Burgers that melt in your mouth and are underpriced. Fries with some kind of special seasoning on them. Even salads that are great if you really want a salad with your beer. Fridays at lunch is pretty hoppin' and there is usually a lunch special like grilled cheese & bacon sandwiches with tomato basil soup, pulled pork sandwiches, etc. At night you've got darts, pool, and sports. Lots of beers on tap. Plus, the best part of all is that you can hop off the max line and walk to it.
sorry, i probably should have been a little more specific with my "review". i go in the mornings usually. i don't know the night staff. probably wouldn't go at night anyway cus i would be right across from Biddy's (which is where i would drink)
I'm not really feeling this place. Bartender kind of gave me shit one night. She thought I was being facetious about something and I was not. But even besides that, it's not quite my kind of place. It might be yours though.
I can't wait to watch the Superbowl at the A&L! And MAX is close by so no worries about drinking and driving.
the bar is the "Steeler" bar for Portland. if you are a Steeler fan it's a very cool place to see a game. the staff is pretty chill too
Good food, lots of tv's and the bartenders are friggin' awesome, Todd and Brian you guys rule. The only downside is every damn steeler fan in portland comes here, oh well.
Just FYI, there's no WIFI at this pub, that's the only disappointment I've had. They have good service great food and Stella Artios. Go Steelers.
A&L recently got new booths that really class the place up. Add that to a liquer license and one of the upexpected delights here are the killer martinis I don't usually find in a sports-focused pub. Went here on St. Patrick's Day (no cover - totally cool) and Superbowl and there barely a spot to sit in. Lots of 30s and 40s people who used to do the Dakota Cafe bar seen in the 90s are here on the weekends and no matter what sport you like, owners Meghan and Angelo will find the game on tv. Even if it is a chess match! Best fries too.
