BarFly's Review of Andina
(a.k.a. Bar Mestizo) Two words: PISCO SOURS! Peru's national intoxicant rears its yummy head, here and only here, in Portland. However, one should pay heed to the owner's friendly warning about the hazards of the Pisco hangover. But, joy and pain, sunshine and rain, whatever, drink up! Bar menu serves up nouvelle takes on traditional Peruvian delights, heavy on the South American sushi, cebiches. Spacious and airy throughout, with big picture windows in the bar, and an up-close-and-personal dining rack right on the chef's line.
Bar open 4pm daily, until 11pm Sun-Thurs, till 1am Fri & Sat.
Live jazz every night (7pm Sun-Thurs, 8pm Fri & Sat).

The food has a wide range of 'tastes'. Some stuff I love, other stuff I leave. There's a great Vegetarian menu as well. I have no complaints about the drinks, but I usually have Cava, which is always good. This place is usually packed, try to go on off times to avoid a wait and an extended search for parking.
Andina further confirmed a long-held suspicion of mine about nice restaurants with happy hour drink specials- they're all delicious, and about as intoxicating as a thimble of high-life. I know, margin, food cost... Whatever. If i'm drinking something out of a martini glass, and not getting at least a little buzz, something is dicked up. The anticuchos were great, but next time I'm washing them down with a soda.
Andina is my new favorite. Their cocktail list is AWESOME!! Just pick one, you will love it. The Sacsayhuaman is nectar of THE GODS!! The food is great and if you sit at the bar, better service than in the VERY crowded tables on the floor in the bar area. Definately worth a try.
Never had one of these before the friendly bartender at Andina gave me a free taste. Yum! He also gave us a complementary appetizer--some kind of pepper stuffed with quinoa and cheese. OMG, delish! We watched this guy mix drinks like a human tornado, and he was super-nice (and cute) the whole time. If you go to Andina, sit at the bar.
happy hour seemed promising but bad service/attitude/clintele made it an awful experience. Waited forever to place our order, waited forever for our drinks, had to ask for check. Drinks and food were good but not worth it, too uptight, service should be much better for a high class/expensive place.
