BarFly's Review of Biddy McGraw's
Continuous dart game? Check. Old men grumbling adorably? Check. Guinness pours taken more seriously than the war? Check. A public house seemingly transported beam by beam from the old country, the note-perfect Irishness draws acolytes from all around Portland to mingle with neighborhood regulars smitten with the bar’s friendly comforts. Live music every night (except Tuesday’s Trivia Nights), usually no cover. Sundays: Irish Jam (7:30-10:30pm). Check schedule at www.biddymcgraws.com

I think they edit out reviews that are slanderous or overly mean and could cost someone their job, particularly if you call them out by name. Unless they have it coming. (La Carretta, anyone?) Did your review have any of those elements in it? The rules are clearly posted below, but what exactly triggers the delete button?
I left a fairly biased and detailed review that I fully expected to not be posted...and hey! What do you know...it wasn't! Awesome objectivity guys. I didn't swear, I left honest criticism, I gave witty reasons as to my displeasure with Biddy's. Are you on the payroll or just on their nutts? Grow a pair of your own, leave Biddy's pair alone and post some negative opinions once in awhile...or not. It's still your site...
I have no idea what the last poster was saying about the bar staff at Biddy's. Every time I go into that little pub, I've gotten nothing but the best service. During the weekday, their lunch service is grand. During the evening hours, I've only had the best of service. Yeah, they get busy, but the staff is on top of it.
Give the barkeeps a break when only one is working and the bar is full. Biddy's is a grand place to enjoy a Guinness, meet some interesting people and discuss a variety of topics. It is also a great place to enjoy a cold one and be left alone.
I had heard that Biddy's was a fun place to check out some music so I met some friends there for happy hour. The bartender seemed generally annoyed that we pulled him away from his gameboy, or whatever he was doing over there in the corner, and rudely set me straight when I asked what the happy hour deals were. (Biddy's doesn't have a happy hour.) This guys attitude was so bad it effected the mood of the whole place. I won't be back.
Too many chain smokers! The periodic cig is fine, but man....take a breath of air sometimes people. And, when you are shitfaced, that is your sue to leave on your own and stop annoying others.
Can be a nice place though. The small groups who some in can be fun.
Sadly, the card room upstairs has destroyed parking in the area.
Went there on a Tuesday night just to grab a bite. Ended up staying for the great pub quiz they have on Tuesdays and the live music after. Awesome monte cristo sandwiches. Atmosphere is very comfortable without being crowded.
Man what a great place. Walked in there the first time the other night. Had a basket of chicken strips and fries and started drinken. Some damn tasty beer there, cozy relaxed atmoshphere, no place like it. A deffinate must on my bar list.
I love this place (great food, service, peeps), save one detail: why oh why must they not open that big green door until 5:30 Monday-Saturday? I can get that a neighborhood pub being where it is may not be the most happenin' place on a weekday afternoon, but Saturday?? Come on! I have been thwarted twice (short-term memory loss? general stupidity?)in my attempt to get a late afternoon beer & sandwich at Biddy's in the past few months. If I could change one thing about the only bright spot in a neighborhood that is seriously lacking good bars, it would be for them to have better-for-me hours on Saturday. Please? Other than that, this is a most excellent place to get some friends together and drink a few pints and have some yummy food while trying to poke each other's eyes out with darts.
Seriously, Guinness elsewhere does not compare. You have to go to the Emerald Isle for beer this good. Thank God for Biddy's!
I do not venture in too often but every time I do I wonder why I do not frequent this place. Very authentic in its Irishness. Good laid-back unpretentious normal folks...and as for the beer...the best! Go maith!
The people who work here and frequent this pub are the stars. You can always start up a conversation and just run with it. This place is like home.
