BarFly's Review of Brasserie Montmartre
Recently re-opened after several years' closure.
Old review: Crayons on the tables keep this upscale joint well-grounded, with the winning art from annual table art competition proudly displayed throughout. Jazz every night, and never a cover. Good service.

Ive been in this neighborhood for something going on 10 years, and ever since the brasserie reopened its been nothing but an annoyance. Last night some LA/west hills wannabe left her pocket yappy dog locked in her sealed Mercedes Kompressor for four and a half hours. When I went in to ask the Brasserie folks if the rapidly suffocting dog & car may belong to one of their patrons I got the attitude of "well...I'm sure *I* don't know" from the bartender. The music sounds decent and I'm sure the food's lovely, but downtown Portland does NOT need another New York City wannabe attitude. Screw em.
I have been waiting for years for this place to re-open and it looks like it won't. Does anyone know who the previous owners were? This was my favorite place to go...
I found out a week ago that the Brasserie was closed. it is my favorite place to go to get away and also take visitor to Portland. i was so sacred to me that I only went for dinner once or twice a year. I started dating my wife in 2003 and have never taken her there. I was planning to go soon when someone asked me if I had ever been there and they heard it was closed I am heart broken. I will never forget my first two times it was with work for a power lunch and later that week for a Portland Trailblzers dinner. I hope it reopens.
A wonderful place when it was open, but it closed for a full-on seismic safety retrofit and remodel. Latest rumor is that it's changed hands and the new owners intend to reopen in a few more months under the old name, with the same basic theme. Which would be great, if a bit overdue. Assuming more of the same, great food even very late, wonderful desserts, good drinks and excellent jazz. For the interim, try 23 Hoyt or Wilf's for a similar type of place.
Very classy, hip, young, gorgeous waitstaff, and the best service in town... I felt like one of the family... the bartender offered me a French cigarette (thank you!)... two lovely men played sax and strings and the background... everyone was high (at least I thought so!) and there were four frenchmen chatting it up with a portland girl, who didn't have a clue, but that is part of a portland girl's charm I suppose. Take me here, Gerardo...
