BarFly's Review of C-Bar

While the furnishings and casual gallery and, well, female staff are as stylish and austere as we'd expect from nearby Eastmoreland drawing rooms, C Bar imports better music (acoustic and DJs) than their neighboring manses and far more sake. Unofficial lounge of Yoko's, they offer a limited selection of rolls once the sushi fave closes, and turn a blind eye to drinks carried between. $2.75 micros, $1 PBR and $1.50-$3 menu 5-7pm everyday.

Hostility, etc...

I order a drink, a man offers to pay for it, I refuse. I fervently try to pay, waving a $20 in the bartender's face, the bartender gives me two options: either I can let the man pay for my drink, or the bartender will accept my money and promptly kick me out because of his "right to refuse service to anyone". Um, sorry, no. You don't have the right to discriminate by gender. Management was apathetic.

Getting dialed in

It had been a spell since my last visit to C bar. The place has completely changed for the better. There is a new chef who has gotten out of the common bar food rut and introduced some tasty new options At least 80-90 percent is made in house and there is no deep fryer so healthier yet delicious offerings are available. I had the SE sampler(mac&cheese, collard greens, and pork&beans). The fall salad was also a hit w/ its candied nuts, julienned pear and a fig vinnagrette. Like I said, The chef makes this stuff in house! I will be coming back for more,, especially during their late happy hour. $2 off food and $1 off wells and drafts.

I just went last night for the first time and I enjoyed myself. It classy, with nice seating, good ambience, and art. And I really like the fact that there is a smoking section thats pretty much a game room. Lots of pinball!

eh....

There are better bars on Gladstone. C just feels too pretentious (maybe it's the red lighting scheme) and not a place where you can comfortably drink. If you're on a Gladstone pub crawl, do not start or end here. Pop in for one drink, then be on your way.

This place sucks and I wish it didn't

I have been to a lot of bars in Portland, but I have never been in a bar that just makes you feel that your business is not appreciated or even wanted. I live with in 5 blocks of this place for about three years and could have been a repeat customer, but for how slow this place is the service is terrible. There is two other people in this place can I get some service or are you to bussy texting your friends to get us some beers. I've gone there four times in the past three years Every time I go I say may bee I judged them to quickly but no its the same thing rude stuck up bartenders in an empty bar.

Newly remodeled

They just changed this bar around, hired new staff, and added some new stuff to the menu. The music is still good, interesting and not too snooty, the food is cheap, plentiful, and pleasantly melty, and the new staff are all really nice. Additionally, they have hired an attractive male to work there, so everybody wins. This has been my neighborhood bar for years, and it just keeps getting better. It's a good place for friends, a date, and eventually to play shuffleboard (once they add the games room).

Nice Mellow Bar

The C bar is a great bar to just relax and sip on some finely mixed beverages. The bartenders are great and really know how to make good tasting drinks. If you are looking for fast service this place probably won't have that, nor will you find over poured drinks that are pure alcohol. Being the alcoholic I am, I enjoy sitting around this bar in the afternoon and sipping and reading. When it gets a little later and I feel the need to get wasted, I usually motivate towards the bars that pour "Sewickly style" drinks. I find all the bartenders here to be wonderful and friendly, but like I said it is a slow, mellow place. It has a great private patio out back, a great sushi bar next door, rotating microbrews on tap, non smoking (inside) and newly installed AC this past summer. The C bar is on my list.

service

service service service. What is with this town and a complete disregard for the customer. I don't get it. This place clearly puts the customer last. Beer selection is ok, food was ok too, though they seemed really annoyed by the fact that I ordered food. Good thing they have Yoko's going for them.

Nice local bar

I come here all the time, and I like how quiet and laid back it is. The music is good, and never too loud or too hip: sometimes old-timey, sometimes dub. There's a nice mix. I've never had any problems with the wait staff, even when all I order is an Izze. Service is a little slow, but there are fewer obnoxious people here than any other bar I've been to.

Soooo Lame

Six of us walked in, and after one drink, six of us walked out. The bar bitch was a nasty skank. She snapped at me for interrupting her conversation with some dude at the bar, after I had waited for 10 minutes for her to notice me, and I was being nice about it. There were only three guys in the whole bar other than us, I mean come on. This place so wishes it was hot , but it's just NOT. "Wanna be' bar.

Hot Servers

Everything about this place is pretty cool but seriously the main draw is the two hot big titty blonde bitches that work in the kitchen and serve food. They keep me cumming back every time.

Updates

They started serving booze this year (wish they had ages ago.) No more TV dinners, but panini and a few other menu items. Haven't seen a smokin' hot chick BT in a long while, the stereo used to be acid jazz/downtempo/DJ mixes--now it's more indie rock, and I don't think they have any more live music or DJs (good and bad, as there were some awful acts at times.) Décor is more late '60s Euro Mod (like the movie CQ) than Ikea. Nice small patio and roll-up front are great in nice weather. A major expansion is underway, so there will be a full kitchen when finished late Summer '06.

We love this bar! The groove is very mellow and the staff rocks. Non-smoking environment and live music is a major plus., though living four minutes (by foot) from C-Bar is a bit dangerous!

What happened to the Hank Hirsh Quintet?

This place had a great jazz band on Wednesday nights. What happened? They were definitely the best aspect of CBar. Doubt whether I will go back. Where did the Hank Hirsh Quintet go? Bad move C Bar!

hipster hang

I stopped in on a Wed. night and caught the Hank Hirsh quintet in there. this is a very swinging band i felt like i was on 52nd street in the 1950's. The decor is also reminiscient of the period. The drinks are good, the staff was pleasant the smoke-free environment was what it should be. The owner has big plans to expand the place into the large space next door and work has already begun. At this point jazz is being booked in there on Wednesdays only with the Hirsh group holding court. When word gets out other bands will be clammering to get in. Enjoy it for now. This is Portland's best kept jazz secret. See you there on a Wednesday.

cozy local place

Great beer, friendly service. I like the outdoor seating. When I've been sitting inside it's been really dark. They serve real TV dinners, jus' like mama used to make. They have a bunch of games including "Operation" and, I believe, an old Pac-Man videogame.

What a great place to chill at and then go next door for kick ass sushi. The best seats in the house are two red velvet chairs tucked back in the corner for two.Non-smoking is the best and hopefully becomes a trend with the rest. Thank you C Bar
