BarFly's Review of Caldera
Former pharmacy (a pioneer of the east side, c. 1910) exudes a reflective, refined, cool - like a great library's reading room - with its fine old bar and classic, simple, furnishings. Despite its Yalie manner, it's totally unpretentious - come as you are, sidle up to the bar for a drink, or grab a windowside table for dinner (the flower-laden garden patio out back is a divine retreat). Prices are reasonable and drinks are tasty. The only downside is... they allow kids. $2.75 pints & well, $4 PBR 40s, Cosmos & Lemon Drops, and $8 pitchers, 5-6pm & 9pm-close Tues-Sun. Dark Mondays.

Just a neighborhood joint. Nothing special except location. Crowded space-wise. We waited at the bar for a table, (terminal gravity and walking man in a goblet; an interesting Thai-tini that arrived only moderately chilled) bussed ourselves to our table, waited for our appetizer and asked for fresh ground pepper, of which there was none, although to be fair, they looked. We were mostly pleased with our night, until we got home and found that they had rounded our tip up to a full 20%. Nothing that happened that night could have been remotely considered "great service", and so, for the extra $1.07 they charged, we promise never to go back.
