BarFly's Review of Cassidy's

What comes from Portland’s last-est call? Servers, scads of them, and, as such, a chummy atmosphere and note-perfect cocktails - tis the bartender’s bar, after all. Less than thirty years old, Cassidy’s has the feel of a landmark steakhouse with leaded glass and dark wood - people do seem to enjoy the mid-tier regional cuisine though the bar menu’s better read than enjoyed - but, early evenings, the tables remain fitfully assembled by college friends absent plans, couples set on avoiding crowds and sweat-drenched stragglers from nearby clubs.

There’s a noticeable jump ‘round one and a steady progression ever after as the cream of west side professionals flood the main room to drink every away last second of bar time and bitch about their customers. You’ll never tip better.

$5.75 gourmet plates 4.6pm and 10pm-2am all 7.

it sets in the west

The only thing this place needs is a piano. A beautiful old room with lots of wood walls and glass. There's an oldish TV, but it's always powered down. One of the fullest bars you'll find, complete with aperitifs and freshly pulled espresso. The drunks, dates, businessmen and off-duties all get the same royal treatment from the welcoming staff. Also, I'll put their burger up against Slow Bar's much touted. If you want dive - or particularly cheap - this place is not your jam. But Cassidy's is the place for authentic bar charm.

Get in there!

There are so many new choices in Portland on both sides of the river and both sides of Burnside - but just because Cassidy's has been around for a long time doesn't mean that the menu or the service is stagnant. The complete opposite is true. Cassidy's has a menu that is creative and the food is satisfying and adventurous at the same time. Try the grilled romaine salad with blue cheese. Best salad I have had in a long while. The wait staff is informed and attentive. A seat at the bar or in the dining room gets you the same excellent treatment.

May you be in Cassidy's a half hour before your boss knows you've

Yeah, I'm related, so biased. Nonetheless. Portland classic. And I only give that label to two other things, one is Roake's Hot Dogs and I'm not telling the other without you buying me a Jameson at the bar.

Awesome! Check it out!

Cassidy's is a true Portland gem! Ask any server/bartender in the Downtown area and they will agree. Great for dinner and late night snacks and drinks. No skimpy happy hour here - full plates of food for cheap. The bartenders, servers and owner are knowledgeable and provide great service. They serve drinks the way they were always meant to be served! If you have never been you should definitely go and check it out.

Food is awesome!

Hey, been going to Cassidy's after work for a while now. The food used to be what you'd expect from a bar, i.e. fried. Guess they got a new chef this year and he's completely changed the menu. It's definately a "gastro-pub" now. And as usual the bartenders are awesome and you don't have to deal with the burbs crowd on weekends.

Cassidys

This is my favorite bar because of the mix of service industry and barflies that congregate at its tables and at the bar. The service is some of the best in Portland and there is none of the usually annoying downtown crowd.
