BarFly's Review of City Sports Bar (CLOSED)
Now closed, review safe for posterity.
Ended up taking a trip on a failboat and is now required to surrender liquor license on Jan. 31 2009. Sports-a-palooza has at least 50 screens (including two ginormous projectors and a slew of HD big screens), showing everything from the day's main event(s) to the Outer Mongolia Hula Hoop Championships on ESPN 14. Get a little uncomfortably closer to four of your best buds by sharing a "Shotski" (5 shot glasses mounted on a ski, duh). Nice staff.

This happened because they played hiphop on weekends and when OLCC gets wind of that they watch the club like hawks. Not the first time this has happened and won't be the last. Remember Red Sea, Vintage 318, and the Vue? Where are they now? Shut the fuck down, that's what. Guess what music format they played? Mmm hmm, hiphop. Guess who shut them down? That's right, our friends the OLCC. Are you thinking the same thing I'm thinking? My condolences to the owner, he ran a fine club and does not deserve to be treated so unfairly. Same for the employees who will be rendered unemployed, Winter is a very bad time to try to get another bar job and they did nothing do deserve this. Most other states operate just fine without the OLCC, why aren't we?
Was talking to some of the staff last night and apparently they are closing sometime this week due to the OLCC
I went for an Andre' Paradise comedy show a while back and it was groovy; I like the selection of different seating.
I believe the UFC (cage fighting) shows have a $5 cover here (as opposed to Free at Belmont Inn) but, it looks like at City Sports you can also participate in the fights.
It's worth checking out.
There is an answer to your complaints about "the guy with the remote" changing your channel with a minute left in your game, for the stupid servants, for the bad poor on the Guinness, or being pissed-off for whatever reason; let the Asian fellow sittin at the bar know your issues and he'll make sure you're a happy sports fan, unless your team loses.
Hey cokehead! lay the flippin changer down already! Oh and guy, another tip for ya here: Ya ain't black, lay off the fuckin' racism or you'll end up black AND blue.
We went here after reading some good reviews, well, what a mistake.
The service was so-so, the food so-so, and my wife's drink was horrible.
The real problem was with what we came there for, the game. The "guy with the remote" changed the channel with a minute left in the game that was on, totally pissing off the people at the next table who had been there for 4 hours watching that game.
The main screen was changed to the bar guy's favorite team, NOT the local team. After a number of people complained, he reluctantly changed it, but for about 10 minutes we continued to get the sound from the other channel. After more complaining, we got the sound of the game we were watching.
Then we got intermittent blasts of extremely loud rap music, silence, and other channels. Finally the mix settled on the sound for the game on the main screen coming form another TV in the back of the bar, and the TV over the bar, showing the bar guy's game, having it's sound up so high it drowned everything else out.
Almost everyone in the place, except the guy's buddies at the bar, was furious. We left and went home, after having deiven 20 minutes and paid parking to get there, and $40 in food. We will never go there again, and will tell everyone else not to as well.
The staff here is cool. I've alway received the service I ask for. Suggestion: Talk to the bartender with the extra short hair, he's so cute.
I love The City Sports Bar! The service is great and the food isnt bad for bar food. The Mac & Cheese is to die for! If you want to go to a place where you feel at home with 200 of your closest friends...head to The City!
We (The Ohio State Buckeye Alumni) are at The City every saturday with a group of a hundred or more. The food and service has been great. The staff of the city goes above any other sports bar that the alumni has ever use in the passed. They play our fight song after every score and keep the crowd hoppin. It is by far one of the best places to watch sports, eat and drink. Family Friendly. Thank you City John
The beer here is sooo good. Maybe because I was out at the gym a little too long. The pint glass(actully it's plastic) is really 2 ounces more than other places. Even if your glass has the extra head, you still get just as much beer as anywhere else. The manager there explained to me about the safety of plastic vs glass... like I really cared, as long as the beer comes out cold, that's all that matters. Cheers.
When The City first opened it was a great place to hang out at night, and get a good beer and watch game during the day. I had not been there in a few months, I went back recently and it is terrible. The Servers and especially bartenders look like they want to be anywhere else than work, and they seem to have no idea what their doing. The drinks are terrible, and the service is slow. What happened???
The Happy Hour will keep me coming back to this place, but the servers suck ASS! Drinks were good, prices were good, location is good, servers suck.
Plenty of TVs, and it's nice that it's (mostly) non-smoking. But we have had problems more than once with the idiot sorority skanks waiting tables. It either takes forever to get served, or they don't know what a beer costs or if it's even happy hour!
Enjoy all the sports but remember to speak slowly when Missy or Traci eventually come to take your order.
Didn't even know this place exist and I've worked downtown over a year. First thing the bartender asked me when I sat down at the bar was "what game do you want to watch?" I'm a baseball fan, so that was the first thing on my mind. Those Lucifer hot wings were spicy and way better than Hooters
The pour of the Guiness pint there is a crime against my liver. Thye pour 3/4 pint and charge full price ...WTF??!!! Mostly foam and don't top it off...WTF???!!!
I came down to watch the NCAA tournament because some friends asked me out. The service was suprisingly good considering they had a full house. Had a great Mojito also.
I haven't seen anything like this other than an ESPN Zone(in Las Vegas). I'm a big sports fan, so they have a lot of things I enjoy. Happy hour food is a bargain to other places downtown.
ok, i think all us old school goth kids should mob over there and kick some ass!!! the city?! i almost died when i saw this!!! hope noone burns your bar down!!
