BarFly's Review of Coasters

Stranded upon a particularly ugly stretch of US 26 ever resisting gentrification, Coasters' unworking-class boozehounds don't exactly welcome emigres from neighboring hipster zones, but, as the bartender tries her best to manufacture unfamiliar cocktails and the jukebox unfurls another long set of well-tended ’70s album rock and the ramshackle comforts become a rallying point, one round too easily becomes twelve. Remember the name, we're saying.

Coasters
Coasters is a decent neighborhood bar. The owner is awesome. He's a great cook, a great guy, and a great businessman. However, there is only one consistently nice bartender on his staff. The other two waiver between rude and downright hostile. The food, for the most part, is good, and same with the company. Prices are average. Coasters is a casual, down home type of place, except Mom is a little disgruntled. Dad's right on, but unfortunately he's not around as much.

Do not go to Coasters
So I have an affinity for dark, smoky, hipster-free pubs. Coasters is a bar I drive by all the time because I live in the hood, and it always appeared to be my type of place. Not so. My friend & I walked in with the hopes of grabbing a quick round while waiting for the pizza we just ordered down the street to cook. Upon walking in I noticed this old troll behind the bar eyeballing us like we had just risen from hell. No matter, I actually prefer bartenders who do not angle for bigger tips with a short cut tube top and lots of silicon. But when we reached the bar, she was quick to greet us with "you better have your ID's". Not a "hello" or "whadaya havin'"...just a curt ID request with far more attitude than need be. Whatever, I know the gub'ment is all over establishments that do not card, so we gladly complied and pulled out our drivers licenses. Me, being the proud owner of an out of state ID (why give the government more money than we already are forced to do?) almost expected a little bit of an inquisition even though I am nearing 30, so when she huffed and puffed about it a bit I was ready with a quick line "Honey, when you see what I order, and the speed I take it down, you will be convinced I am not under aged". Cool...seemed to get her approval, she gave it back and moved on to the next one. My friend then handed her his authentic Oregon State driver’s license. She proceeded to eyeball him extra hard and barked "this isn't real!!" which anyone who drives a car in this state would know how real it truly was. Then she flipped the license over and started bitching and whining about the fact that he had some tiny little sticker on it. She actually started lecturing him about how illegal it is to do such a horrible thing. At that point I got pissed and said "you know what, fuck it, we just wanted a quick fucking drink...obviously there is no such thing here, so fuck it, and fuck you, i'm out..." We turned around and left, and will never return. Any place that employs people like that will never get my business. Fortunately, we cruised down Powell to 25th and found a bar that knows how to treat people, and were able to get our drink on.

This bar does have that 70'sjukebox thing goin on but it also has a pinball machine! For us 'older' hipsters this was way fun. Pool tables looked ok.They have an outside deck that is great for summer night sippin. Not so smokey and cooler.
