BarFly's Review of Dan & Louis's Shucking Room
Pocket-size lounge in circa 1907 oyster house is chock full of unique Portland memorabilia. For thrills and chills, take a gander down into an ancient well, recently uncovered during renovations, now used primarily for the holding of bad tippers and other malcontents, "Silence of the Lambs" style! Beware and bring your own moisturizer. Definitely a good choice for a first- or blind-date meeting spot, and should be on the itinerary for any out-of-towners looking for a bit of history with their Manhattans. Semi-premium well from $4.00, featuring fresh-squeezed juices. Food till closing, but skip the notoriously 'eh' full menu, in favor of happy hour apps and, of course, oysters. Lounge open (and serving full menu) until 2am Thursday-Sat, closes at 9pm Sun-Wed. $2.95 menu & $9.95/dozen oysters 4-6pm M-F. Thursdays: Songwriter night (9pm). Fridays & Saturdays: occasional live music.

Great little bar. Happy hour menu has lots of choices and the food was very good. The oysters? EXCELLENT!!! Fresh shucked and ice cold.... so delish! Good deal on drinks too. Staff was professional and courteous. All in all, worth the trip downtown!

I liked this little bar and the historical restaurant it's connected to. Great atmosphere! Lots of cool stuff to look at and check out while waiting for food, which was served fast and was good. They have a great bloody mary with a little oyster juice in it to give it a really unique and yummy flavor. And the raw oysters? Let's just say yummmmm... crisp, fresh, and 6 different kinds on the day we were in. Thumbs up!!

The happy hour oysters on the half shell were tasty and a good deal. But the older lady bartender treated us like we were a couple of kids with no money (we are in our 20's and always leave a nice tip when we get decent service) I guess I will go back but may have to refill my own water and go tell the kitchen what I want so I don't have to wait 20 minutes to be asked when there is only one other table.

Food= 3. Poor quality/freshness Pacific NW oysters, mediocre bread, and poor coctail sauce. Atmosphere isn't everything.
