BarFly's Review of Gotham Tavern

A hipster hive of honey-toned wood and buttery leather banquettes (including two private "cocoon" booths, available by reservation), the bar's a delicious eyeful, with excellent food and top-notch service, to boot. Despite its high style, it's an a low ego environment, with a genuinely friendly bar, and plates and drinks at moderate prices. Rotating set of eclectic house and guest deejays play at conversation level, but a de facto dancefloor erupts at regular intervals.

Cheer up Mary

I hear the Dixie is hiring. Snort! 4 reals though, I'd expect that kind of treatment to come from a dive bar with a rough clientele not a place thats supposed to be high class like Gotham. That was just rude and out of line.. tacking on an automatic gratuity for 2 people is something places like the Roxy does and I don't blame them due to their clientele, but Gotham Tavern? Weird. If they want to act like they work in a dive they need to get a job at a dive, there's plenty of out of work servers who know how to act classy in a classy setting. I thought this might be a good date spot but not now..my womans got a booty and I wouldn't want them calling her a "fat cow" too.

Slow, horrible service

Sounds familiar to my story I think I had the same coupon for $35 meal ($25 off)......."My husband and I kept looking at the statement puzzled again by the final calculations. The owner saw our frustration and had our waitress approach us. "Oh...by the way", she said, the tip is already included"

Only difference with my story is we did dispute it, 18% seemed a bit steep for the service. After all we had waited 30 min to get our appetizers and first drinks, then 20 min later were told we needed to wait to make our dinner order because the cook was getting too busy, and then waited about 40 min to get or bill. All the while with an empty water glass.

The response I got was what shocked me. I was told if I didn’t like it I could just never come back. When I mentioned that would be good advice that I would be sure to share with my friends and coworkers, I was told to "shut my f'ing mouth and leave the restaurant. As I left in disbelief, I was hollered at again and called a fat cow. I will not be returning.

Side note - as a fat cow, I know how bacon, burger and fries should be cooked and this chef was way off the mark!

friday night bartender

I had heard that the Gotham was open again (still?) and went in with a friend last friday for a late snack and drinks. When we arrived the bartender was busy but still was super fast serving us. He asked some people at the bar to move down so we sit together and even though it was too late for the full menu he talked the cook into hooking us up. Nice people, good. Not much more you can ask for. I'll be there again.

Gotham rocks

I had the best time last weekend at Gotham. They're changing the name to the North End, I guess. But the music was great, the employees were friendly. I will definitely go back.
