+++++
This lower Burnside public house has kept its name, but it's now run by Vintage Cocktail Lounge’s Justin Akins, Trebol’s Kenny Hill, and beer-wizard Daniel Roy. Change is afoot.
“Two Fingers and a Back” - a pint and complementing shot of spirits, highlights a menu of more than 25 whiskeys, and beer from micro-, and nano-, breweries.
Enjoy tasty and affordable appetizers (try the “Balls of Fire!”) while staring at the high ceilings, sports and popular cable shows on the wide screens, or playing pinball (a fourth on the way for the Flipper-Fingers gang) on the upstairs mezzanine.
Sidewalk picnic tables for your smoking and drinking pleasure.
A side note for LEED freaks: The heat is geo-thermal, and The Guild has their own spring-fed water source (“NedWater”), originating from an aquifer under the building.
Show your tattoo on Sunday and get a 2-for-1 well drink or tallboy.
Stay tuned for art shows, DJs and other surprises.

Easy-on-the-eyes wait staff couple with a good combo of seating options (couches, booths, bar stools, small tables) and friendly owners.
Eats are a steal in the $2 happy hour menu, and the beer selection is rock-solid across the board, including some rare finds. My grilled cheese wasn't cheesy enough, though (wishing for a Cheesy Morning from MorningStar - my arteries should feel clogged!)
A couple of really big TVs are not obtrusive (read: usually quiet), making it a good way to socialize while watching the game.
The Guild hits the spot between dive and upscale - what I like about Portland. I wish I could do something more with the space to make it darker, but it is what it is.
Definitely worth a stop.
