BarFly's Review of Hing's Happy Lounge

Heavily laden with '50s style chinoiserie bar decor, but character is being chipped away as "renovations" are robbing it of its best stuff. Mostly country karaoke scene weekdays, live bands weekends. Nice lady BT's serve a cheap, stiff drink.

Hing's

I have been going to Hing's for years. For many of us, it's our version of "Cheer's". Most of us who go there on a regular basis, are long time friends and associates. If you go there on the weekend to see live music, and one of the many bands that are lead by Portland favorite Marty McCray, you are in for a treat ! He has a Beatles band that performs there..The Dung Beatles, an old school Blues band.. Mac's Blue 5, a Rock-a-billy band..The Kooltones, and one of the best Classic Rock bands in PDX..Random Pressure, along with other Portland Bar Band favorites, if you know which bands to go see...., it's definitely a step above the typical "Bar Band" scenario ! The food is definitely worth trying as well, they specialize in Cantonese and Mandarin cuisines, and you can order full menu items in the bar, and many people do. I'm always surprised at the number of people that are ordering full meals while they are listening to, and dancing to the bands. The employees are always pleasant and in good moods, the drinks are worthy, the music is usually great, the food is always good, and the decor is down to earth and not too fancy or pretentious...., worth checking out

Going Downhill and no seating unless you're a "regular"

This used to be a great bar in Oregon City. It has gone downhill in the past year. Every Friday when they have a band all the regulars reserve every single table and sometimes don't even show up. This leaves no tables for new customers. The drink prices have also gone up which might be due to the economy, but there is nothing to make you want to go there to pay more for the same drink you can get down the street without the cover charge. Also, we have witnessed on occasion the "bouncer" at the door will charge a cover to one customer and no cover to a "regular" customer. Unfortunately, these "regulars" are older so eventually they will all die off and Hings won't have any new customers to bring in the door because of our past experiences. Please make some changes and bring back the "Happy" lounge we used to enjoy going to.

Fun

The weekend bands are usually pretty good. Great place to have fun and dance. Debbie the waitress is awesome and the food is good too if you need a something to absorb the drinks:) This is our "go to" bar in OC.

Entertainment

I saw and heard "Blue" sing at Clackamas County Fair this evening. He was the BEST! However, after coming in "second" tonite, I asked his girlfriend if he would be performing anywhere else soon. She responded & told me he would be singing with his group at your place tonite, but dissappointedly, I could not attend. What is the group's name, do you have their e-mail address, and are they returning to your lounge anytime soon?? Thanks for your help! Chris
