BarFly's Review of Hobo's
Well-mixed, convivial crowd trends toward professional thirty-somethings, and away from the dirty disco gangbang element that plagues the PDX circuit.
Casually posh, with long bar, piano and jazz trios, and game room in back. $2.00 well, $3.00 calls 4-7.
Happy Hours
I just read over some of the lame ass reviews that have been posted with regard to Hobos. In all fairness, the drinks are strong and NOT overpriced as some would have you believe. The food is consistent and plentiful for the price. One would hope that your palette could afford more than just the bar menu items as they are well worth it.The service is great and the bartenders are usually entertaining. Hobos is a place that I feel comfortable bringing friends whether gay, straight or indifferent. I do recommend sitting at the bar if you like a quick pounder, as the place can get bit busy, and it can take a few minutes to get a drink. I rate Hobos an 8 on a scale of 1-10.

Well the atmosphere is terrific.. wish I could say the service to my 10 person party was as good. We were also there for the tunnel tour.. in which case we were told before hand that we did not need to reserve out spot just show up... which is wrong.. then we were told when we got there that someone would be by to take our names and money for the tour.. they did not because the waiter or whomever never told the people that were taking down names.. then on top of multiple times not getting drinks when asked for until the 2nd or 3rd time.. and since we had more than 5 people the AUTOMATIC 17% gratuity is ridiculous..when the service sucked as bad as it did. I will not be going back. Great people and atmosphere but horrible service.

We have always found the ambience to be conducive to actually talking while enjoying good piano music in the background. We have found the service always good if not entertaining. The pool room in the back adds a comfortable, less formal touch. It is a definite see for anyone wanting a classier more mature venue to wine and dine!

I dont know how stiff the drinks are because I drink beer, but I know the bar tender is hot and I will go back just for that.

So the Portland Underground Tunnel Tours meet there. Got there a bit early to get a buzz. Awesome atmosphere to meet someone out casually after work. Really enjoyed all of Old Town and China Town. Thanks! Tour was good too.

This place has the absolute worst food. Think third rate Las Vegas casino crossed with Denny's. And the joint will cost you more than some Pepto Bismol and regrets; it's priced way too high. Perhaps I'm missing something, though, and "Hobo" is meant to be the theme and it's meant to taste like Salvation Army take-out. If so, I take it back

I love Hobos. It's the nicest gay establishment I have found in Portland so far. It is a great place to have conversation without competing with loud music, video screens, porn (why do most of the gay bars here think they need to show pornography???), etc. Not as smokey as most other bars, but would be better if it went non-smoking altogether. Food is pretty good, but the food service is very very slow. Drinks are great.
