BarFly's Review of Jolly Roger II
The Jolly Roger family's brand spanking new joint in John's Landing.
In it's spacious confines you will find 15x plasmas with 5 billion channels.

Ummmmm, OK. The writer forgot to mention the amazing clientel from the John's Landing neighborhood (intelligent, fun, witty, etc.), the FANTASTIC and always entertaining customer service of Starr, Sunny, & Cheryl, the 15 plasmas displaying every game you can imagine, and the INCREDIBLE burgers (YES, they are better than Stanichs'). We also have daily food & drink specials (especially for Blazer games, Nascar, etc.) outdoor seating in as of this week, and poker in this month. Gotta luv the Jolly Roger @ John's Landing!!! Nobody, and I mean, NOBODY, has more fun than we do!!!!!
Stanich's rode too long on its reputation. Let's admit: It was gross in there. The folks from Cheerful put a lot of elbow grease into reclaiming that space, reborn as the Jolly Roger II. It follows on with their normal modus operandi: cheap and dark.
On Wednesdays a waitress that speaks in energetic parenthesis will tell you just what to order. Although she may terrify you at first with her aggressive loquaciousness, she can lift your spirits once you know what to expect.
A bartender accosted me during a Blazers game to explain, eyebrows raised to the ceiling, what the criteria should be for retiring jerseys. He would run off when needed at the bar, then trot back to reiterate. Once again, wholly entertaining if you don't have any privacy issues or some sort of Californian obsession with what appropriate server behavior is. If you are like that, I probably don't want to have a beer with you anyway. Get out of my local bar.
I love a dive bar, and the Jolly is all you expect from a middle of the road dive bar, with one notable exception: it was remodeled after the smoking ban. There is not a hint of stank to the entire place. It is eerie, but like the spitfire wait staff, it is pretty soothing once you adjust your thinking.
The food can be pretty good, not outstanding, but the happy hour offerings are alluring enough. JRog, we welcome you to the bar-starved Southwest.
