BarFly's Review of Laurelhurst Theater
Much of the Art Deco movie palace’s interior was lost to the ages - blame multiplex hegemony or the reluctance (mystifying, now) to booze through crap films - but the original 1923 sectional mirror has now been restored to the Laurelhurst lobby.
A touch of old Hollywood utterly washed away by the microbrews and enlightened pizza inhaled by filmgoers. $3 films shuffle indie, art, classic & blockbusters.
21 and over after 4 PM, blessedly.
Beulahland, Casa Del Matador (SE), Chin-Yen, Chopsticks Express, Coalition Brewing, Holman's, Red Flag, Tabla, Tapalaya
I went for the Longbaugh Film Festival today: a bargain at $20 for a day pass, and they don't rape you for refreshments. A large soda was $2.50 and a small popcorn reasonable ( i forget $), Comfortable seats, some with counters in front for your food and drink. I enjoyed the atmosphere and will return in the future.
Not the best set up for viewing movies. Tiny screens and shitty audio. But there's plenty of variety and you don't have to take it up the ass as far as ticket prices go. Best of all, you can drink beer and eat pizza and popcorn and it's dirt cheap.
I just love this place and it has even gotten better since it has been remodeled. Of course, this is not the place to go see a movie when it is first released, but they do a good job of showing a variety of flicks, and the monthly cinematic theme is great. Great specials, twice a much popcorn for half the price at any Regal Cimema. Oh, yeah and good beer. The pizza is good as well.
