BarFly's Review of Leisure Public House

Tidy modern concrete art box (Ala Rontoms,Vendetta, etc) is a far cry from the usual St. Johns M.O. Inside, you can find the predictable art work, great service, decent menu, well stocked jukebox, and the occasional uptight yuppie. Best on a sunny day, the real joy of Leisure are to be had on the patio, which which features a bocce court and a concrete ping-pong table.

Needs Improvement!

I live about five blocks from Leisure and give it full marks for atmosphere, juke, and patio. However I don't patronize it because a) all the taps are from California. In Portland that's rude, lame, and..well, why would you do such a thing? b)they can't make a decent margarita.

Both of those things are dealbreakers for me. It would sure be nice to have my neighborhood bar stock beer I actually want to drink.

open mic mondays

Leisure has a new open mic every Monday at 8pm. A fun affair featuring local musicians. Geared towards acoustic performance, it's not the typical 'holy songwriter' scene, but a more conversation friendly hootanany with solo performances and jamming. A cool addition to an already good place.

Leisure Public House

Leisure is a wonderful place. A great place to meet with friends or to meet new ones. Excellent selection of choice liquors, wines and beers. Great food. Nice atmosphere, clean and the service is fabulous. Travis, Ben, Cindy and Claire are the most accommodating staff around. Decent jukebox and ever shifting artwork. a slight touch of class for St. Johns. The crowd is well behaved and slightly left of center. A good time every time. Sunday is movie night and Tuesday is trivia night. A nice place to spend any night of the week.

Love ya Lesire

How lucky am I to have this new place just stumbling distance from my home. It has filled a major void in the Nopo bar scene wasteland. Food is tasty, Travis is the best bartender in town in my humble opinion, and trivia nights with Edward are a blast- if getting perhaps a little too poular these days. And liquor coming soon! Oh my.

A step in the right direction

NoPo could use more places like this. Very cool place to hang out, and very different from the usual dive-y places along Lombard. Nice decor, comfy couches in the corner, and even some board/card games to play... totally easy to just chill and enjoy a brew. Good beers and wines, and excellent food! The atmosphere would benefit from some kind of music, for when the jukebox isn't playing, but they're off to a good start.

What the neighborhood needs

Great place... very nice atmosphere. The jukebox is maybe a work in progress, but it was definately loaded with tons of great music. Also, not the standard "bar food"... fantastic sandwiches/paninis that don't make you feel quite so guilty for eating at 1 a.m.

nice

Went to Leisure a week or so ago to check out Travis' bar. It is *not* a dive bar but it seemed a good place to go to have a few pints (or a good glass of wine) with friends. The jukebox is "a work in progress" to quote Travis ... and was probably the only thing i didn't like.
