BarFly's Review of McCormick & Schmick's (CLOSED)

And with one foul swoop...closed! Review saved for posterity.

Handsome, deco-era bar in Historic Register building, showcases eye-catching Portland memorabilia, offering a little local history, alongside a killer happy hour menu. One of the oldest, and more charming outposts in the M & S empire, Portland's most successful restaurant & bar chain.

no lobster??

Actually went there to celebrate a birthday with the intention of ordering lobster. After reviewing the menu and asking the waiter..........no lobster was offered. We ordered some appetizers which were kinda disappointing. Crab cakes were way salty and calamari was cold. We finished our starters and drinks then walked down to Ruth Chris to the lobster tank. Craving was fulfilled there instead.

no thanks

Went here three years ago and was disappointed with the food. An Alaska Airlines coupon for $20 off gave me a reason to try it again. No amount of discount would bring me back until they change something in the kitchen. Just wasn't good.

A nice place for Santas

Every year in Portland, several hundred people dress like Santa and head on a drunken rampage about town. You'd think 475 (literally) drunk santas would freak a place like McCormick and Schmick's out, but they served us friendly and as promptly as circumstances allowed.

Right On!

These guys are proud of what they do. It shows. Great food, great service, and of course a great bar!

Downhill

These guys are slipping. Changing the cheeseburger? What are you nuts? Lots of little changes at McCormicks, as in quality of ingredients. Margarine instead of butter, red stuff instead of good ole Heinz ketchup, the McCormicks cheeseburger on a kiezer roll? come on! And to top it off the bar is now non-smoking! And a whole lot more expensive. they raised the prices on everything but the happy hour.

One of my Portland favorites!

THE spot downtown for happy hour. NOT a meat market, unless that meat is in one of the kick ass burgers. This is my favorite spot to hit before a Trailblazer game. Right on the MAX, no driving involved! Old school service, properly made drinks and a great dinner menu if you want a little more food.

Happy Hour

Quality food and a seasonal selection. A great place for lunch or dinner and even better for a quick bite after work or before a night out on the town at their "happy hour". The burger is the probably the most meat for your dough and they don't skimp on *anything* on the menu. Great presentation for the price--you would be hard-pressed to find a cheaper price for seafood. (unless perhaps you enjoy your "shrimps" at some Chinese restaurant) Drink purchase required. Bring friends and tip well. The service is very prompt.

happy hour

This is a quality happy hour. Possibly one of the best deals in Portland, McCormick & Schmicks hosts a happy hour that rivals any I've ever been to. Bring an appetite, because the food specials are amazing. Also, the bartender's service is impressive, to say the least (especially Pete). Good luck finding a better happy hour.
