BarFly's Review of McPeet's
A cozy pub rather smaller than their impressive signage suggests, McPeet's has managed to remain a proper local within a neighborhood largely unchanged these last few generations. Unembittered grampas take the day shift, surrendering the bar 'round nightfall to a younger, livelier crowd drinking in the old boys' footsteps. Sports chatter, friendly dust-em-ups round the pool tables, a sense of tradition - it hardly seems like Portland at all, actually.
Happy Hours
appears frozen in time. the kind of place I used to go with my Dad and drink grenadine-enhanced soda pop while he sipped whiskey-n-cokes and shot the breeze. a core group of locals grounds the place in its primary function as a neighborhood bar. very low key and friendly. two flatscreens for sports. web-linked jukebox plays just about anything you want, but is not cheap. video poker draws some sad characters as always, but I'm sure those machines are largely necessary for the bar's financial survival. sometimes I walk in there on a friday evening and I'm the only guy in there. sometimes I walk in there at 2pm on Tuesday and it's packed.

It's the best Ladies Night in town. COULD do without all the smoke, but love that we can just roll home. It doesn't get any more "Neighborhood Bar" than this. With each squeak of the door and turn of the heads, you can almost hear "Norrrmmmmmmm" play in your head.

Thanks!
I must say that I liked this place. The owner KATHLEEN is very friendly. Mondays they have $2.50 micro's all day (large selection of them on tap as well).
(The outside tables are awesome weather permitting)
Golden Tee golf and a mega touch not to mention a pool table.
I however enjoyed watching the lot of people in the place and sipping a cold beer silently.
Regulars to hipsters to suits and all inbetween. Nice casual and laid back homey bar.
I was also told that they just got the hard liquor recently for those of you who do not know that.
Over here in Beaumont, we call McPeet's "the office." It's a pretension-free zone where you can go alone, with friends, or just randomly for a nice pint. On St. Patrick's Day, we sang "Wild Rover," accompanied by the fabulous Melissa on piano, along with many other Irish standards (never mind that the bar's namesake is -- ahem -- of Scottish descent). Be sure to use the bike rack because we got 'em recently installed in the neighborhood, and not all biz owners wanted them outright at first (but they are coming around).
Only downside is the prevalence of dingedy-ding video poker and high degree of smoke sometimes, but hell it's a bar what do you expect.
McPeet's is all you could hope for in a neighborhood bar, and I hope it stays there forever.
