BarFly's Review of Mississippi Station

A slice of elegance in the upcoming Mississippi district. The beautiful antique chandeliers add to the stylish grace of this fancy eatery. It’s a little bit of upscale for us lowbrow types. They always have live music, their motto is ‘eat, drink, listen’. Of course you would expect that due to the fact that it’s a part of Mississippi Studios, Portland’s number one underground music outlet.

More than just a drinking hole

Some folks don't know a good dinner when they eat one and even less when they have to pay for it (like "John Smith", that eloquent character), because you get great food for way less than you'd pay for the same thing downtown. Nicest patio in the neighborhood by far. There's plenty of dark drinking holes around there but Miss Station trumps them all for food, and is pleasant enough to be family-friendly AND has a full bar. Great brunch too. Those who appreciate rustic charm will like it; people with no class will go get their Pabst elsewhere.

empty for a reason

to the last post it is not crowded because nobody in the neighborhood wants to pay that much for dinner and drinks for the atmosphere miss studios offers.

Excellent food

The hanger steak is always great. Some of the best fries in town. Totally friendly staff. I don't get why this place isn't always packed with people.

breakfast

Good atmosphere. Big sized breakfasts. Nice patio complete with airstream drinking trailer and movies in the garden. Pleasant people.

Great neighborhood spot

I've been to Mississippi Station only a couple times now, the first was the night of my 21st birthday. After being rudely denied a drink at another bar whose name I won't mention, the bartender that served me at M. Station had the same opinion (that I didn't need another drink) but he went about it in a much, much, much better way (he offered me water :). Another night I ordered dinner to go and had a White Russian while I waited, and the staff was very attentive. Some people might be bothered by being approached at their table by more than one staff member, but while it shows they may need to communicate better, I'd rather be attended to more than necessary than ignored! Basically... a great neighborhood spot.

breakfast

sadly, some few months ago there was a big falling out, and the good dinner chef is gone. what has arrived is a really solid breakfast. PANCAKES. try them out.

this is also a good place to take out of towner hippies.

don't go here!

this is the worst place i've ever eaten. terrible service, okay food, over-priced for what you get. i've given this place a try before: it's consistently bad and i'm really easy to please. don't make a mistake by eating here.

Burgers

Mississippi station makes a pretty good burger and fries. I was humored by the fact that while I waited for my bacon cheese burger to go, all I saw come out of the kitchen were burgers. Everyone seemed happy.

Great to drink on.
