BarFly's Review of Mississippi Studios
Mississippi Studios, in its current incarnation, sort of screams craftsmanship. The balcony is all burnished wood beams and self-advertising joints; the wire of the railings announces its nuts. Heck, Rejuvenation Hardware uses the Studios as one of their flagship client testimonials.
Here’s how it all went down: the fire marshal a few years back, in a fit of well-meaning pique, decided that this small venue/former church’s first incarnation was a death trap, and so now it’s all ridiculously fresh looking.
What’s more, one no longer need amble through a middling brewpub and suburban-style betrailered backyard in order to enter onto an array of creaky risers facing the stage. (We miss the inconvenience, thanks.) The door, as a novel gesture, now opens from the street, onto a stage that faces the entirely other direction.
Still, Mississippi Studios remains the go-to spot for North Portland sitdown music, catering mostly toward the upwardly mobile, sanctimonious, consumer-conscious (i.e., easily manipulated) granola bohos who’ve decided they own the whole Mississippi tract.

the setup is a little weird and from the outside you wouldn't know that the have a great venue inside. the food is pretty tasty. there never seems to be a lot of people there which is unfortunate considering the front part is nice and cozy with good bar service and the back is a really well set up area for shows. the staff is pretty nice and again the food kicks ass, especially if you like philippino food. i also like the macaroni and cheese. i've yet to hang out there when anyone good was playing, but who cares, the food and the drinks are good.
