BarFly's Review of Mulligan's
Never a destination, exactly, unless one knows the bartenders, Mulligan's just sort of appears when needed. Dying to watch the game while gal shops Hawthorne? Driving a carload aching for pool tables late Friday night? Desperately, feverishly seeking anywhere's open Christmas night to wash the taste of family away? Not that Mulligan's isn't a good bar (serviceable pub-grub, dark wood, exposed brick, video poker discreet against lavatories), but it's never quite dead nor packed. Worse things than a bar with a few thousand annual regulars. $3.50 micros, $3 call, $2 wells, $2.25 doms 4-7pm.

"Last post The last post by Sam D is obviously the one ignorant, uninformed loser customer that irritates all of us other customers at Mulligans who thinks she knows everything about politics and everything else (that everyone laughs at). PUH-leez, none of the staff give away free drinks. Get a life, get a clue, and get your facts straight."
Jimmy, is that you???
Thank god that chick does not come in any more. A fog of ugliness has left mulligans.I hope it stays that way.

As one who used to drink at the Mulligans, there are a couple of the staff have been so obnoxious and snotty, it's just not tolerable. Jim and Voo are the worst thing that happened to that place. When I go there and they are working, it’s incredibly annoying to hear their malicious, obnoxious conversation about every customer that goes in there. I cant stand to drink somewhere when the bartender harasses customers to “tip” him more, and then he rips on them when they leave. The little waiter isn’t much different, he has emotional issues and vents constantly. Maybe if they got laid once in awhile they wouldn’t be so bitter. That place is a joke anymore. I don’t know what the owner is thinking putting people like that to run her establishment. But I bet she would be pissed if she knew Jim was giving alcohol away for free. Maybe she’ll catch on. If it wasn’t for the other staff members who are pretty good about their ethics, that place would run out of business.
Mulligan's is quite the classy place that embraces all things American. Bartenders are sociable, the locals are friendly, pool is cheap, the soup is delicious and don't even get me started on the greatest pinball machine ever, medievil-madness. All in all a great place to drop-in for a few drinks when you need to kill time or if you are in the middle of a vicious bender. Carrot pipe? Really? I refuse to think anyone would ever do that.
People tend to change names every 12 hours in here a lot lately. :) Try as they might the writing style is a tip-off every time.
Mulligan's is a great place to make new friends or stay in touch with people you might consider aquaintances (but might want to know better). It's definitely an unassuming kind of bar which are usually the best. If you are easily offended then maybe it's not the place for you because we (regulars) are all straight talkers. If that's your problem with Mully's then either go sit at a booth by yourself or go away. I generally go there during the day and love all the day shift people and regulars. It's like my home away from home. Feeling blue or out of sorts - shake it off at Mulligan's.
as the bartender that works at mulligan's the most i know we are far from perfect! but with some new changes and serious consequences we at mulligan's have fixed the problems! we have a great happy hour and the BEST regulars and customers in portland! so i am inviting you to come and join us so we can fix all the bad reviews and make mulligan's great again! and to all of you who love mully's, please share your feelings and great stories with barfly!
Holy crap. Though totally not holy. I'm not offended easily, but have been entirely offended by this place. Have heard not much more than the staff and customers trash talking about current and former patrons. In less than 5 minutes, the two 'tenders said bitch and cunt no less than 5 times. (I have a sailors mouth too, but really...) Then one 'tender went to make a carrot pipe for a customer - right next to me. Also noted - a sign to the staff here that says "had another DUI from Mulligans". 22 in 6 months. I used to work in this location when it was Biddys. It was crazy back then, but this bar is crazy BAD.
Side note, I did get very fast service from the apparently new guy.
Oh, and the bartender just chugged a beer in front of me. While behind the bar. OLCC? And the other one is fighting with someone on his phone. Hasn't been behind the bar in 10 minutes. This place is a bad joke. Owner/ manager feel free to contact me. kris@barflymag.com
