BarFly's Review of Nel Centro

(@ Hotel Modera) Nel Centro is the most recent installment in the Machado (Vindalho, Lauro) restaurant empire, installed as super urban-sleek adjunct to the Hotel Modera’s Wallpaper magazine vibe.

The massive bar and restaurant recall not so much Mediterranean food--which is what it is--as contemporary Swedish froideur, all flat disconnection and post-corporate, near-existential loneliness, under a big pointless personality-free mural of a… what? Grapevine, maybe?

Still, the happy hour makes it well worth coming into this iceberg of a misguided design palace, in particular for the $6 lamb burger or one of many fine-dining pizzas coming in around the same price.

The service is pro as it comes, of course, but man: do we have to say again that if you come here you will feel alone even in a group? That you will feel that everyone, everywhere is alone and that nothing can change it?
