BarFly's Review of Nob Hill Bar and Grill
Nice to see bits of the old NW endure, but ... why the Nob Hill, exactly? The bar's grimy AND overbright with a surly clientele killing time til they can yell little kids off their lawn - there's a distinction between protective wariness and social disorders; regulars don't even talk to themselves. Sports are shown on the big screen to the interest of absolutely no one. The supposedly-famed burger doth protest too much. They've halted daytime smoking but, shall we say, haven't yet drawn the West Hills soccer mom clientele. Unpretentiousness, given sufficient forethought, can be rather more irritating than its opposite. Couldn't we use another Starbucks on the block?

Feels like a mini-Cheerful Tortoise, but still maintains a local diner scene. One of the few places in the area where you can get a cheap pitcher of beer to share with some buddies whilst watching the game. Four flat screen tvs are usually playing baseball, football or basketball depending on the season. Taco Monday is a great deal: $2 for 3 tacos. If you want a bite to eat, watch sports, drink beer and live in the area, I HIGHLY recommend this place.

The first bar I went to in Portland - your first will always have a special place in your heart - even if it was not your best! That sums up how I feel about Nob Hill. Great neighborhood bar - decent prices - nice staff. Great place to take someone when you actually want to be able to sit and chat with them - without the people watching or loud music to distract you!
