BarFly's Review of O'Malley's
There are similarly-styled bars every third corner of southeast, but everything about this comfy, expansive neighborhood bar and grill's so, so much better than it has to be.
An honest to god real jukebox spins a connoisseur's blend of metal, blues and classic rock.
Never too crowded, there's almost always a pool table open, drinks are stiff and reasonably priced with bizarre daily specials likely invented that morning, and the patrons - a blend of blue collar types and aging hippies dotted with those laborer bohemians peculiar to the area - couldn't be friendlier.
Though the live music nights are infrequent (usually only one Friday or Saturday per month), the line-up is often a choice selection of the local creme de la creme, usually with a metal bent.
Full menu served 3pm-10pm, bar menu served until close.
Open at 3pm-2:30am everyday. Open 362 days a year - closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas.
Bonus: Free pool (x3) and foosball all the time!
Mondays: Heavy Metal Mondays with DJ Boyzyk (formerly of KUFO) spins the rock 9pm-1am, no cover.
Thursdays: deejays.
Monthly: featured local artist showcase.

I discovered these guys when I moved to the neighborhood. Coming from Seattle, I was a regular at places like the Canterbury, the Hideout and Twilight Exit. This place definitely has a similar feel without the unfriendly, too cool for school bartenders and patrons. Everyone that works there is beyond accommodating and definitely not pretentious. They always keep up on the latest local beers and rotate them fairly often. The booze is reasonably priced and always generous. Love the panini sandwiches and the cook is always cool if I want to custom build my own. Love the jukebox too. Always has a random selection, but somebody has good taste. The best thing is they NEVER close before 2:30 and I am always able to get in a last shot when I get off work. I'll be back for sure.
To those out there that believe that bars cater only to bitter, unhappy drunks who wash their sorrows away in a cheap bottle of booze, I say to you come to O'Malley's. Are there hipsters? Sometimes, yah. But they're friendly hipsters! They don't care if you listen to The Monkees or really, really love watching old episodes of Thundercats! It makes me almost feel bad for implying that the term hipster carries a negative connotation...almost.
The rest of the peeps here all seem to like just about anyone who ventures in to sit a spell. It's rare to see a frowning face amongst the pool tables, bar stools and booths. The bar staff are just as friendly. They've been nothing but kind every time I've gone in. The pours are also very nice. This is one of the places that realizes that when you order a Jack and Coke, you want just that...not a Coke and Jack. Don't fuck with Jack by taking him off the top of the marquee. It's just not cool. These guys get it.
I haven't tried the food yet, so I can't really comment on that, but even without it this place is great. Heavy Metal Mondays always seem to lift my spirits after a long, grueling day at my thankless job. Oh, and did I mention they have a FOOSBALL table as well? That sound you just heard was your MIND being BLOWN!!! Please, don't everyone rush the place at once now. Enter in an orderly fashion and I'm sure you'll be taken care of just as everyone is there.
I've lived in FoPo for the last three years and have watched O'Malley's transform greatly with its new owners. Food is limited but decent pub grub, they have by far the best tap list in the area, and the mixed drinks are generous and reasonable. Mike is an exceedingly nice bar tender who always takes care of my wife and me. And they have a jackalope head over the bar. What else do you need?
Ok, don't get me wrong it's not a bad place. Nothing too flashy here besides the poker machines and the small televisions hanging from every wall. It's a big divey bar: Smokey. Check. Dirty: Check. Smelly: Check. But it's a local favorite and the Pool tables are always free and they do have a pretty impressive selection of micros. The problem here is the lack of food. I've tried to eat here twice in the last week and left with a growling stomach. That's cos both times the cook was off running "errands" or buying crack. I was told he was "missing." So I went across the street to Plaid Pantry and got a frozen burrito. Yay, O'Malleys!
I did the Foster Pub Crawl a couple of months ago. O'Malley's was our second to last stop on the tour. O'Malley's by far was the best bar we visited that night. Driving by you might think that O'Malley's is just another Red's, Andy's or Foster Garden.....It's not. Killer Juke, stiff drink, free pool and FOOSBALL!
I want my sweet little kimmie back. your replacement sucks. only nights to go are weekends now for inteligent fun with Lynn.
I accidentally posted before I was done.... so here's a continuation...
The staff is totally cool with playing these games and are very friendly and poor some good drinks. A pretty good selection of beer from PBR to Arrogant Bastard. The Spanish Coffees are not the best but they are stiff but drinkable. Some people I have played these games with there at first felt strange to be playing a board game there but the people that come up and ask what we are playing are totally cool. They are interested in what we are doing and one even said he would love to see more of that sort of thing as it's a "pub" type of thing that is dying if not dead in this day and age. Perhaps that's an attribute of the games we are playing but I'm sure it says something good about the clientele as well.
If someone is knocked out of a game they can always amuse themselves with pool, darts or poker while waiting.
All in all a great place to go play some games and have some drinks in Southeast!
This has become my local hang of late. It's a surprisingly large and well spaced out room with three pool tables and nice booths. There is an electric soft tip dart board in another section with no intervening paths to disrupt your game. And of course, the ubiquitous video crack on the side. A couple of large tables and a few "tower" tables (for want of a better phrase). You will never feel crowded in here though I've never actually been on a weekend night. For midweek it's fantastic. A fairly large after work crowd but it thins out around nine and becomes really "chill". I'm really into playing designer or "Euro" board games and I also work on a graveyard shift. So I'm always looking for somewhere to play games within my personal time frame. This means bars. This place is great for that. If you can score one of the larger tables it's perfect. But if not the booths usually suppport up to a five player game if the board is not huge. We have played Nexus Ops and Ticket to Ride in the booths with no problem. You just have to be careful to not get to wasted where you will spill your beer on the board.. which makes me kill you...
