BarFly's Review of O'Malley's
Nothing particularly memorable about O'Malley's, there's similarly-styled bars every third corner of southeast, but everything about this comfy, expansive neighborhood bar and grill's so, so much better than it has to be. A masterful diner cuisine generally unappreciated with the enclosed restaurant area's solely used by cooks watching cartoons. The internet juke spins a connoisseur's metal. Never too crowded, there's almost always a pool table open, drinks are stiff and reasonably priced with bizarre daily specials likely invented that morning, and the patrons - a blend of blue collar types and aging hippies dotted with those laborer bohemians peculiar to the area - couldn't be friendlier.
Ok, don't get me wrong it's not a bad place. Nothing too flashy here besides the poker machines and the small televisions hanging from every wall. It's a big divey bar: Smokey. Check. Dirty: Check. Smelly: Check. But it's a local favorite and the Pool tables are always free and they do have a pretty impressive selection of micros. The problem here is the lack of food. I've tried to eat here twice in the last week and left with a growling stomach. That's cos both times the cook was off running "errands" or buying crack. I was told he was "missing." So I went across the street to Plaid Pantry and got a frozen burrito. Yay, O'Malleys!

I did the Foster Pub Crawl a couple of months ago. O'Malley's was our second to last stop on the tour. O'Malley's by far was the best bar we visited that night. Driving by you might think that O'Malley's is just another Red's, Andy's or Foster Garden.....It's not. Killer Juke, stiff drink, free pool and FOOSBALL!

I accidentally posted before I was done.... so here's a continuation...
The staff is totally cool with playing these games and are very friendly and poor some good drinks. A pretty good selection of beer from PBR to Arrogant Bastard. The Spanish Coffees are not the best but they are stiff but drinkable. Some people I have played these games with there at first felt strange to be playing a board game there but the people that come up and ask what we are playing are totally cool. They are interested in what we are doing and one even said he would love to see more of that sort of thing as it's a "pub" type of thing that is dying if not dead in this day and age. Perhaps that's an attribute of the games we are playing but I'm sure it says something good about the clientele as well.
If someone is knocked out of a game they can always amuse themselves with pool, darts or poker while waiting.
All in all a great place to go play some games and have some drinks in Southeast!

This has become my local hang of late. It's a surprisingly large and well spaced out room with three pool tables and nice booths. There is an electric soft tip dart board in another section with no intervening paths to disrupt your game. And of course, the ubiquitous video crack on the side. A couple of large tables and a few "tower" tables (for want of a better phrase). You will never feel crowded in here though I've never actually been on a weekend night. For midweek it's fantastic. A fairly large after work crowd but it thins out around nine and becomes really "chill". I'm really into playing designer or "Euro" board games and I also work on a graveyard shift. So I'm always looking for somewhere to play games within my personal time frame. This means bars. This place is great for that. If you can score one of the larger tables it's perfect. But if not the booths usually suppport up to a five player game if the board is not huge. We have played Nexus Ops and Ticket to Ride in the booths with no problem. You just have to be careful to not get to wasted where you will spill your beer on the board.. which makes me kill you...
