Playing with the precious "diner concept" usually results in oh, say, closing in 14-16 months, but though The Original self-describes as a "dinerant" (gag!), it's a spiffy addition to the downtown scene, and pulls off everything it attempts, even when over-reaching.
Architecture buffs will swoon in its soaring glass and aluminum framed atrium, and fawn over the updated danish mod decor throughout its varied seating areas, spread over two floors (downstairs: cute lunch counter and comfy booths; upstairs: clubby dining room, and sexy conversation pit).
Greenies will pee themselves over its Gold LEED certification and soft-core locavore orientation (local spirits and brews featured in bar, too). Foodies will hear only three words: Lobster Corn Dog. House-made sodas in esoteric flavors may prick up some ears, too. It's like Pulp Fiction's 'Jack Rabbit Slim's' got cgi'd into an episode of The Jetsons.
Swell service, and reasonable prices, keep the place real.
Two complaints: it could be open later, and a dance floor would seem in order.
Closes around 11pm (midnight Friday and Saturday) most nights.

Yes a VooDoo doughnut burger. Sounds ify, but just close your eyes and order it and then dig in. It is absolutely fabulous. The delicate taste of the glazed doughnut, with hole, and then the quality beef of the burger come after. Indescribably delicious! Don't walk, run to The Original.
Dropped in on their first day and was very impressed. Fun, polite wait staff took very good care of me and the food was awesome. I had the meat loaf and mashed potatoes which isn't to risky but easy to mess up. The thickness was perfect and the flavors rich. Even the vegies had just the right al dente texture. They even give you two healthy slabs and plenty of mashed taters so you don't go away hungry. Normally I'd say 15.00 is too much for meat loaf and mashed potatoes but this one is worth it!
