BarFly's Review of Outlaws Music Hall (CLOSED)

(formerly and once and again known Bossanova), this Outlaws has been shut down.

Grand, multi-level vintage hall's been Portland's hot potato for years, passing through one set of hands after another - beautiful space, but simply too big to fill on a regular basis. Currently being billed as a rock-n-roll oriented live music venue (having been cast as country-western honkytonk, and swing dancing emporium, in recent iterations). Multiple bars, including a billiards room, and a half-assed strip club on the third floor (see Aces High). Bar service is efficient, and nice enough, but beware their infamous security staff - Cerberus had a better handle on hospitality.

for sale
It will be interesting to see who would possibly purchase this bar? I mean you can open a new nice and clean bar for about 100k (of course not that big). Why spend 350k for all the headaches and amount of staff you would have to deal with. Not to mention the bad reputation this space has built up. ( Not trying to knock it, just simply trying to offer a reality check ). Would love to see someone actually make a great new venue in town......but it seems like we have a lot of venues already as well.

Posers
It's funny all the stories that you hear about bouncers and how they act like dickless wonders. I think that the various police departments around the area recruit from these places. All these bouncers are suffering from one of two things small dicks or they thing that there bouncing in L.A. or N.Y. Posers all of you.

not so bad
So i went in on saturday for the first time since the infamous Roller derby after party last year( and trust me i wasn't thrilled to go). but id have to say they did a total 180. the staff seem way cooler. i didn't go upstairs to the strip club but the bartender downstairs seemed cool. i got to talk to her for a minute. i didn't see any security throwing people around like last time... i actually didn't see any security at all.(always a good thing). now i don't know if i'd make this place my local hang out but i definately wouldn't mind going back for another show....

Skinlab
Yamadaa friend's band opened for Skinlab here so i went here this weekend.
No security staff bothered me (didn't see any but at the door). no
weapon searches and they weren't rude. Waiting for my first two PBRs
(expensive!) was painfully slow ... but i guess the bartender finally
figured out i was going to tip her and actually service improved after that.
Loved the disco cowboy hat thing. Left right after my friend played and went
to B-sides. I told Tanya this place wasn't as horrid as i expected. She replied
it used to be much worse. still, i wouldn't recommend the place ... maybe just
kick and scream a little less when my friends drag me here.

Girl Fight?
Did anyone see that girl fight late on Saturday January 27th at Outlaws? It was near the dancefloor and it was crazy! Me and my boys were kind of excited, but at the same time, it was pretty dumb. One girl had a big cut on her eye and was bleeding. Every time I go to that place there is a fight.

Roller Derby VS Outlaws round 2
The Roller derby gals are hosting an after Bout concert at Outlaws this Saturday 1/27....I can't believe they are going back after all the crap they had to say last time. I guess since the format changed the staff has as well....
Should be fun to read about the fall-out! ;)

Not a country bar anymore folks. This site has unfortunatley served as a slandering post for former & disgruntled colleagues that unfortunately have nothing better to do. Only reason that there is even a response from here is due to the fact that unfortunately this happens to currently be the #1 hit on GOOGLE under "Outlaws Portland".

Anyway.....for anyone that wants a long needed update, we do not do country, with the exception of a current national act now and then. Format is primarily Rock including local, regional and national live music on both FR and SAT, VIP Party's and great drink specials on THURSDAYS and SUNDAYS...Guaranteed best beverage specials in town, $4 All You Can Eat Pizza everyday from 4-8PM, All American Bar Menu, including Great Steaks, Mini-Buck Burgers made with 100% Pendleton whiskey. We Had Fun
The first time we were there we had a blast. Our group of 15 got hammered for a $5 all you can drink promo. The Hostes was great the tenders were nice too. Didn't hit the strip club on the 3rd floor. I heard they had $.01 beers. Is this true?

Lou your just jealous!
I know exactly who you are and honestly I don't remember a time at Duke's that you even took 2nd place... Don't go trying to talk sh*t about Rick and Denis... They owe you nothing... You ever try to start up a bar, let alone in the "downtown" market... No I didn't think you little old ass, who still goes out way too much, jeans too high up on her waist and a boot scoot that is loosing its boogie, has tried... Rick is pretty smart for turning it Rock and Roll, its called a marketing tactic and it seems to be working, slowly but surely!
As far as the model contests, there have been a few calendar girl contests there long before the Ron Jeremy one, and it remained more classy than any of Duke's contests... I can't believe you won 2nd on a guns and buns contest unless you showed some nasty skin. Nothing sluty or porn like happened that night at Outlaws, so maybe you should quit being jealous and get over yourself, and stay in for a night at your age! Seriously girl you say your 40, than grow the F up!
Rick and Denis have been nothing but nice to you... ohhh and I remember when they were DJ and manager at Duke's and could "hook" you up, you sure didn't have a problem with them than, now did you! So get over yourself, you dont have a high horse to sit on, and watch Outlaws grow!

Rick and Denis I love you to pieces, and I love that bar and it will get better!
xoxo

Rick, you suck
I read the latest reviews, and it doesn't sound like it is getting better at Outlaws...the two owners are former employees of Dukes Bar and Grill...They opened Outlaws with the intent of a Real - country bar, with Real - country music...Well congratulations you two boys, you have failed...I can't beleive they were bad mouthing Dukes for playing a few rock songs...from looking at the venue at their bar, Jello Wrestling? Woman showing their butt crack? Men dressed like bikers? The strippers upstairs: that I heard from some guys that goes there. Rock bands and Rock stations? And oh yeah, my favorite (not), the so called model search contest on the 21st. why the hell would you need Ron Geremy to host that - that is not going to be a model search that is going to be a slut search, and for those of you who dont know who Ron Geremy is, he used to be the biggest porn star and I do mean biggest! Rick you and your side kick are nothing more then male pigs. If you think real hard you will remember who this is...the very sexy 40 yr.old woman from Dukes, dressed all in black along with the my cowgirl hat and boots, who never won anything less then second place in the buns & guns contest and nothing less then second place in the limbo contest...Lou

The amusing things that went on
Just found out about this little blog so I decided to give my view on the night.
First time I had been in the place. I got there at around midnight after hitting Bar Code (COOL PLACE). A friend of mine said we had to go check it out... a couple of his friends were with the Rollers.
STUPID MISTAKE!
I was embarrased for his friends... one helped set the party up.
This is why. I walked in, after standing in line because half the group was stoned, which isn't a bid deal, until they start trying to pick fights with the bouncers before they even get in the door. How stupid can you get?
We finally got in with a group, after about 20 minutes.
Went up the stairs... Does a place really need that many stairs? I remember when it was the B and I don't remember that many stairs.
Well, having had a couple before going there I had to hit the bathroom. WHAT WERE YOU IDIOTS THINKING? You could smell it from the time you hit the front door all the way through the place. And talk about some cheap crap. Get some decent pot next time.
Walked into the men's and it was nearly as bad.
Hardly anyone was drinking, and a large part of our group (yea, I say our group since we were the ones the party was there for) were acting like it was our job to wreck the place.
I can't believe most of you were so rude! I have met several of you since, and I haven't seen this any where else. Why there?
No, the service wasn't the best, and it took a while to get a drink, but with that many people, I was expecting even a longer wait.
What was the deal about not being allowed upstairs? I got up there with no problem... and there were several of our Derby Chicks up there hanging with the Cowboys. Seemed liked they were having fun. Even the nurse. Or maybe that isn't what humping the cowboys leg means?
I have been back a couple of times... Service was ok. People were pretty decent. Bouncers aren't there to be your drinking buddy. A couple of the waitresses could lose a few pounds. Guess that is about it.
What I find funny is that I have seen a few of you from the party there when I was... so it can't be all that bad. Plus, you have to admit... the drinks are cheap and I thought that was the point.

Unexpected Fun
Ok, I can see folks on this web page had bad times at Outlaws, but my sister and I went last night after the Blazer game because we found it by accident on our way to Doug Fir. It was fun to watch everyone dance and wish we knew how to 2-step. Service was fast and efficient. Potato skins sucked, but the burgers were great and cheap. The guy who ran the mechanical bull was nice and helped us up since I'd only ever tried it a few times before, and my sister never had. Hot girls danced with each other. Good looking men in cowboy hats filled up the place. Give Outlaws a chance to get kinks out...the music, drinks and atmosphere were great.

Bitch, Bitch, Bitch
I visited Outlaws in January. The staff seemed like good people to me. I will say there was a little confusion, but that I think is to be somewhat expected with a new establishment. "Give these guys a break" And let me tell you something, it takes a lot of balls to try and make something like this work in an area like this. I think all of you complaining liberals should Stick to protesting, dying your hair green, piercing your face, and burning American flags.

I love this game!
FYI, I did not stay for more than an hour at Outlaws before heading over to Doug Fir for better service and actual food. I returned briefly to say goodbye to friends. I remember people coming through with kegs, etc and I assisted them in getting people to move out of the way. C'mon, if you are going to lie, do a better job. I also have people that can back that up. As the postings from "staff" reveal, the workers at Outlaws do not possess the social skills necessary to do their job in a a safe and efficient manner. There is a right way and a wrong way to deal with the general public. By not allowing me in to the VIP lounge, which I did not know was the VIP lounge, and being rude about it was the wrong way to go. All the guy had to say was, "This is the VIP lounge, I need to see a bracelet." This is enough explanation for me and I wouldn't have made a big deal about it. However, this is not how it went down. The overall attitude of the Outlaws staff was rude with the exception of the bartender I went to get the one and only drink I purchased that night. She was courteous and clearly overwhelmed, having to ask for my drink order several times. The bouncers and door men need to learn some people skills and also learn when they are in over their head and need to get outside help. Lack of communication seems to be the issue here as I read all of these comments. All you have to do is learn how to communicate better with your patrons and have more staff on to deal with such a large crowd. Until then, I will not grace the doors of Outlaws.

When Bossanova switched over to Outlaws there were several of us that came over to work for Outlaws from Bossanova. We switched over because we thought that it would be a nice change of pace and we were excited to have the opportunity to keep working with each other for a new company. However, after three back breaking days of re-arranging and getting Outlaws open for the grand opening the bar manager was fired oddly enough(two days after we opened) and we were given the chance to walk or stay. We all walked. Here is a little advice to who you are giving money to. First, we worked hard as hell to switch over(barbacks making minnimum wage) and well Outlaws never decided to pay me and the other gentlemen either never were paid or had to repeatedly hound the owner about pay. Also, other employees met hours shaved and pay reduced at check time. They of course quit.Funny how everyone on the original staff walked.Does that tell you something?"Checks in The mail", and "Checks aren't here."has become the standard answer. The I.R.S. says Outlaws owes me $97.50.They had the audacity to tell me they would see "where and when the check was cashed" .Im still waiting for that tid-bit of information too and a check.Take Dukes number two back to the burbs.Please.

Roller Durby SUCKS!!!
Let me start off by introducing myself... I am one of the "rude" cocktail servers on duty the night off the roller derby disater!!!! I encountered a bunch of ignorant, coked out, cracked out stoners with no curtousy for any one around them, including the roller durby freaks!!! I was totally stoked to work that night, because I like punk rock, I like the punk rock people I have been around!! The punk rock people who came out to OUTLAWS that horrific Saturday night were ignorant, inconsiderate, RUDE, un-couthed punks who left drug residue ALL over that bar. Im the one who had to pick up coke tubes, weed and pill baggies. Half of the people I pulled drinks from, or that we did not allow in that night, were not drunk... All of you ignorant writters below are right... They were doped up! Don't lie and say they weren't because I know when someone is lit! I would try to be polite and walk through the crowd saying "excuse me" "Coming through" Tapping people on their shoulders to ask them if I could get by... They would glance and me, and turn back around to whome ever they were talking to. So yeah I got a little bitchy... Thats when I start yelling "make a hole" "move out of my way" and even that didnt work... It took an extreme amount of effort for us just to get through the crowd to get people their drinks... So you wonder why our service was slow that night... Take the needle out of your arm and think about it!
The reason that "sober girl" was told she could not use the because one of our "clowncers" told her someone was smoking pot in there... It wasn't him protecting the F N pot heads that are your friends, not ours, it was us cleaning up the messes and kicking out the proper pot smoking morons, before we let anyone else in there.
As for The Trashy RN Nurse... I know EXACTLY which one you are... You the girl who I wanted to throw down on, you were so rude, and so demanding no matter how nice I was or no matter how many times I tried to excuse myself past you, you acted as if you were God's gift to that bar... BS!!! Your trash, and you wont amount to much more than that!
As for Miss. "I filed a report, and following suit" F U... I saw the whole thing... You know the bouncer that was trying to break you and the other drunk or drugged up girl up, and you kicked that bouncer in the head which kicked off his Brand New $250 Cowboy hat, that he got the day prior, and someone from your party kyped it... You really should understand you were the messed up one. And I will be more than happy to testify in court to the whole thing, not to mention some of "your people" who gave their number to the bar to explain that you were out of line. Some actually came in to file reports, so if you did decide to pull this crap later!
I would like to see the Roller Durby crowd find many other bars that can hold up to the capacity of people, and deal with that many people's crap in the Metropolitain area... You really didnt have a choice, so dont act like you did us any favors. We pulled in more in sales 2 weekends prior with 100 less people! With 600 + people I made $42 in tips... The Saturday before with 100 people I made about $150. I spent most of my night having to cut the drunks and drugged up trash, that we call humans, who were intentionally breaking glasses, and thowing garbage all around. We have over 75 ash trays in that bar, and not a signle one was really used. An hour of sweeping after ya'll left just to clean up after you. I too have worked in many bars before, and NOT ONCE have I encountered such behavior and lack of maturity!
I am VERY proud of the OUTLAWS staff including Bouncers, Servers, Bartenders, Kitchen Staff, Management, Barbacks and anyone else I might have forgot. There was this one REALLY nice girl they was with "your" orginization who came up to me and apologized for the lack of her parties manners. Periodically came up to me throughout the night and asked if there was anything she could help with, to put some of those people in line. I was grateful to see 1 out of 600 people could be aware and acknowledge the ignorance around her! Thank you to that girl, hopefully you know who you are!
I could care less about the way you dress, or how much make up your wearing, or if your dressing up like a clown... The music was fine, some of the swing music was AWESOME! It was the group of people who followed them, that I had my beef with. Also most of the writters writting the reviews are the same couple of people... Some of the verbage and context of the body of their review, the way they phrase things the same... Seriously, GROW UP, we dont need people like you in there anyways... Im more happy with my Cowboy crew anyways! They know how to treat people. As for whoevers comment about her boyfriend being a "real cowboy" and has stopped in every bar from here to Texas or whatever, and not even our Urban Cowboys are Urban... First thing is first... Not all of them are claiming to be cowboys. They bought a cowboy hat to go with the theme... Me I am from the south, and was raised around cattle, and ropin... If you saw me in there you would NEVER have guessed that... 2nd thing is a couple of the "not so real cowboys" are actual professional Bull Riders... So why don't you leave the opinions and assumptions up to someone not as moronic as your boyfriend, because he obviously is not a "real" cowboy!
Farwell, see ya'll on the flip side!
Come to OUTLAWS Bar and Grill, it is the spot to be, don't listen to ignorant people! We do a GREAT job there, and good luck on closing us down! OLCC knows your RCR group and knows what you put bars through... Knows that you put bars in positions that become out of their control, and risk the saftey of their staff and other bar patrons... So let me know how that goes... If I still have a job in 3 months, I'll assume it didnt work out for you according to plan. :)

I seem to have missed all of the drama the other night. Darn it how I love good drama that doesn't involve me directly! I like to watch it unfold from the sidelines..now this one sounds perty guud!
Okay about the bar. Slow and very rude service. May I please once again emphasize RUDE&SLOW!!!!!!!
WOW! I have been to and worked at "a" many a bars in portland Tempe and Walnut Creek, yet never (and I am a heckuva tipper) encountered such jerks. (not even at the Doug Fir!)
My drink a simple SEX ON THE BEACH was all F'D up. My boyfriend had a very crappy dirty Grey Goose Tini up....(yet served with ice cubes??)
The door guys were like kinda flirty with me and rude once my guy (hot as hell by the way) walked in. And YES my Guy is a cowboy..man for reals. He rode bull on the rodeo circuit for a few years. He isn't just a BAR cowboy. He has been to every cowboy bar from here to Tyler Texas and trust me; per him this IS NOT!!!!! a true cowboy bar.!!!!!!!!!! It is full of posers!
Won't go back even if my hair is on fire to get H20 to douse the flames!
Now HIPPO hardware a ways up is a great place for cool house stuff!!

Roller Derby Freaks
I happened to be at Outlaw's on the night the Roller Derby had there party. I don't think management knew what kind of people they were going to be dealing with when they said they would host this party.

The first smart thing they did they played country music upstairs for the country fans and let the roller derby fans have the entire lower level and the pool room with their music. As one of the above captions states they acted like they were insulted by the separation of crowds. What a bunch of dumb asses, you crying little babies, you could of gone upstairs at any time you wanted. NO ONE was stopping you. I went upstairs where they were playing country and many of the "roller derby" crowd were dancing with the cowboys and having a great time. I was very surprised with how well the "cowboys" conducted themselves. When you have 2 totally different types of people and they can get along with each other without making judgments of the other group and party and dance together that was Great!!!!! I think the DJ upstairs made sure "his group" was acting accordingly.

Later that night some of the girls were smoking pot in the women’s bathroom. It stunk to high heaven!!!!! How offensive of a few girls to think the entire bar wanted to smell their stinking pot. You rude bastards! Then when they were asked to leave that is when the problems started. You smoke pot at home NOT in a public bathroom.

Almost from the beginning I knew that Outlaw’s management had made a BAD decision by letting the RCR people step foot in their establishment when I saw a “roller derby” guy vomiting from the top of the stairwell into the men’s bathroom. This was around 10:00 pm early in the night by bar standards.

I never saw the staff be rude as all of the above captions claim. As near as I saw the staff did their best to control the "problem people" without starting any other fights.

I think under the conditions the staff did as well as they could of when 600+ people come in and act like THEY own the place. When I was a kid I loved roller derby but, after meeting the NEW roller derby crowd I don't think that I will be getting into that sport any time soon!

Most of the roller derby crowd were RUDE, DEMANDING and PLAIN ASS WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw a girl wearing a 2 piece swimsuit with fish net stockings. I saw a several guys wearing LIPSTICK and spandex pants OWWWWWWW SEXY!!!!!!!!! FREAKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I don't like men that were more make up than I do!!!!!!!!!

In closing I wonder how many bars your “crowd” will be welcomed back at? I would think NONE. GOOD RIDDANCE. RCR

Ignorance truly is bliss!!
As I saw and heard, the Rose city Rollers made the rule for the VIP Lounge because Pabst Blue Ribbon contributed Kegs to them. They didn't want every cheap skate in the joint getting free beer. Although! clearly not the case. VIP were seen giving free alcohol to non-VIP members. You should take your complaints to them rather than ignorantly complaining. Further, you can only tell rude people so many times 'I need to have your drink' after last call. One of those crazy rules OLCC has...Weird! Find another venue that will put up with the B.S of the RCR fan's and members. I guarantee We will see more bitching on barfly how they were not all allowed to drink till they passed out! When a guy had his drink taken after last call (actually, snatched out of his hand) he got a little rough with the bartender. I calmed him down to try to help out the situation... hey, I didn't want this drunk to have to deal with the bouncers! When he finally settled down and let go, the bartender *sneered* at me then walked away. You're welcome, ma'am! Another crappy thing: they have a photo booth, but it costs FIVE DOLLARS!!! Urban Cowboys
I too was at the RCR afterparty. I had been in Outlaws the week before and was not all that impressed at that time. But, I thought to myself, maybe they will be cool since the RCR was bringing them a lot of business. For the record, I did not see a single bouncer wearing Wrangler jeans. Most of them were wearing baggy Levi's and Carharts with ridiculously large belt buckles that I am sure they picked up at Culpeppers when they bought their stupid ten-gallon hats. If they were serious in even trying to be Urban Cowboys, they would have been wearing skin-tight Wranglers so I could have gotten a good look at their ass. I grew up in the country and these guys put even urban cowboys to shame. They also would display a little courtesy to patrons. I was refused entrance to the VIP lounge because I didn't have a bracelet on, never mind the fact I was still in my outfit from roller derby....I mean really, how many women dressed in a sexy nurse outfit are going to walk into a country bar on any given night??? The guy wouldn't let me in, so I started to walk away. He asked me if I knew any of the people in there, which I did, then he said, well hold on. At that point, I was tired of the crap and walked away. These guys were running on some kind of power trip the whole night. I also witnessed the Rollergirls not being admitted downstairs. The guys at the door were pricks and didn't have the people skills to be doing their job. Being a security person involves more than just being big. You need to have people skills, including being able to evaluate if someone has been drinking or not. Obviously, these guys don't have a clue. I work in a local ER and those girls trying to get in were not drunk. Overall, I think the size of the venue was perfect. RCR is learning as they go, and I am sure the next after-party will be better, just be patient. Hopefully, the organizers can find a decent venue to have it at.

Won't go back. Rude bar staff, ultra rude door staff, super snotty (and unattractive BTW) Cocktail staff. I am big on venturing out around town both in Portland and Seattle and I will tell you now this place needs a revamp! They were out of my 1st 2 choices of whiskey and G-friends first choice of Brandy and then very snotty about the whole thing. Stayed only for one drink so never got the bait and switch, but I wouldn't put it past them. Did however smell the familiar aroma of marijuana coming under the ladies bathroom door (looked like there was a guard job going on ;) then just a few minutes later out walked an employee...very suspicious. Circumstantial evidence, but makes me go Hmmmm. I would not recommend the place to my worst enemy and sheesh Outlaws you get all these sexy hot Rollergirls in there and treat them like crap! I tend to believe all the very well spoken reviewers. Very dumb. Hey Rollergirls..let me know when your next party is I am there in support of you gals! Plus looking at your royal hotness would be a side treat!

WE WILL SHUT YOU DOWN
I am extremely upset and dissapointed with this establishment. I am also a member of the RCR and have never gotten treated so terribly by an establishment in my life! I am still suffering from the injuries I recieved from the security gaurds Saturday night. I have filed a police report and will persue my claim! I was not intoxicated or under the influence of any drugs. I simply had to use the restroom and when I was denied I used the mens restroom. This most certainly is not a reason to attack and restrain me to the point of popping my arm out of place. I am not denying that I did not fight back. I have never gotten attacked like that before. My first reaction was to defend myself and get free. I hope at least one of you are suffering the slightest from my lashing. My Chiropracter and Doctor have documented my injuries, and I hope you all realize I am not going to sit around and suffer while this place remainds open. In fact I will to everything in my power to shut you down and ruin your reputation.

Way to much bitching for a party no one had to pay for but the sp
Let's try something positive! While service clearly needs to be worked on, the staff performed remarkably well for +600 plus individuals. 7 bartenders and 6 cocktail waitresses were converged on in one entire moment, not a typical nightclub evening anywhere. And as I understand it! there was not a single incident between the cowboy patrons and the RCR patrons. I recall several RCR patrons dancing with the cowboys upstairs having a good time. I think for a brand new bar to stick there neck out there in support of the RCR and there fans, which is not the demographic Outlaws theme leans toward says a lot! Contrary to popular belief, Outlaws was not rented out for the party! They did it in support. Was it perfect.. NO! But for what it was and where it was.. I think it was success! As earlier comments have been made, the RCR post party has not been pulled off successfully anywhere! And have yet to see a positive comment about any after bout party.

The door guys....definitely need work! They are indiviuals who will be held responsible for their inappropriate actions. As to the hostility between the doormen and the fans etc. DRUGS anywhere are BAD! OLCC will close and fine bars huge for this kind of behavior. And to get mad because your being asked to leave and then physically removed when you refuse because you are with the RCR or friend of, try that anywhere else and let me know what the outcome is! Smoking pot and the other paraphenalia left around, I'm amazed things were not worse! More alcohol did not need to be served, clearly!!
Now ask why repeat parties have not been welcome? Your running out of bridges!

What a crap hole
Visited Outlaws for the Rose City Rollers after-party and this place sucked. The staff were stomping around like friggin storm troopers from the begining of the night; not very welcoming. For some asinine reason they had you go to different lines for draft beer, bottle beer, or liquor drinks. C'mon lady, you got a beer tap behind you, just pour me a pint! Not cool. Head to BC's American Saloon on SE Powell for a much better country-bar experience.

Not my kind of place
I will not make fun of people's clothes or the style of decor. That is something personal to those folks. Outlaws is a country bar, and it is supposed to attract people who are into that urban, psuedo-country style. Fashion and decorating do not excuse lousy attitude or dumb ass pricing. I will not talk disparagingly about someone's hat. I will however make fun of the inbreds at the door wearing them. I was lucky enough to have seen what could only be described as a "beer station", with no line, near the dance floor, and at a buck a cup I was lucky. It was Bud-Light, but it beat standing in line with Jeb, Slim and Tex (aka Maurice, Stanley and Herbert), and their snears of disdain. Will I go back? No, but not because it is a country bar. I am skipping this place because of the atmosphere and attitude of the staff, and to a lesser extent, the hicks that regularly go there.

Can bars do this?
I have so much more I could say, but I'll leave it at this: I may as well start a countdown to when this place is gonna close. It's a shame that they are wasting space like this on this horrible, horrible place. There is no reason that non-hostile people need to be escorted out of a bar by their throats. I've been in bars where you could clearly see how people could be mistreated like that, but the crowd I saw was pretty tame and respectful. A shockingly horrible staff and setup. Notify me when it's a real business establishment.

I give em 4 months tops!
I am not associated with the RCR or Outlaws. Have heard of the Rollergals and been once to Outlaws. I am however a person that went there for a different event and was charged varied prices for drinks and treated rudely. Door people absolute idiots! Bartender swindlers and all around crappy management. Several of my event co-partiers feel the same way....................... so a big Texas THUMBS DOWN to this place.

Not worth your time
Would not waste my time again on this place. I am a loyal supporter of the above mentioned event and was terribly disappointed at the overall attitude of this bar. There are so many other bars in this city that would more than love to have your business and support a group like this. I have never seen so many people be throw out of a bar as I did Outlaws...one guy by the thoat, another couple by the arms...never saw any altercations inside-looks like these guys just want to throw their weight around or were on some type of pathetic ego trip-are you kidding me?? It's a cool place, but horrible management and bad service-poor place will not be in business long...

Price Changing
After what seemed to be an eternity of the bouncer checking my ID at the front door, I entered the establishment. I proceeded inside
and saw a few fellow RCR's and said hi as I made my way to the bar.
I saw the long line for drinks and made a comment to a fellow RCR "I'll be here all night".
They said to me go into the VIP room and get a drink. So there I went,
where another bouncer was standing at that door who basically darted in front of me, I said "hey I'm with the rose city rollers",
he still didn’t say anything else, didn't ask me for a wrist band nothing and then my fellow RCR who was with me
vouched for me and in we went. When I walked up to the bar I asked for a vodka on the rocks, what I usually order and they told me they only served beer.
So back out I went and decided to wait a bit before I went into the line for a drink in the regular line.
After a bit ai got into line and finally ordered my drink Vodka on the rocks (Grey Goose) which is pricey at bars but damn 8 dollars???
Jeees I lived in San Francisco for 13 years and never paid that much for the same drink. I paid it because I really wanted it...
no problem I shrugged it off. After a while I went and got another one this time at the far end of the bar which was closest to the stage.
I waited there for a while when there was no line, the woman came and took me and a friends order
(I had another fellow RCR with me) I asked for Grey Goose on the rocks, she took care of the drinks for my friend and
then she left with out giving me my drink, and went and took another order on the other side of the bar from someone else.
I said hey you forgot my drink, she said I didn't know you wanted one...by this tome i was losing patience fast but didn’t say anything and kept my thought to myself.
FINALLY...I got my drink I said how much ???? she said 9 dollars..I said what ??? 9 dollars...it was just 8 dollars at the other end of the bar, did you know what she said to me?
"we'll then you got a discount" I handed her 9 dollars and left. I was pissed and told a few people as I drank my drink quickly and left the building after that.
I have never felt so unwelcomed in a bar, where we (The Rose City Rollers) who decided to have an after party after putting on a great event for our fans and friends and brought a lot of patrons into their establishment who spent money.

It seems to me a place like this shouldn't stay in business period, only because to me,
the bartenders make their own prices to either make more tips at the end of the night,
or discriminate at their will.

OMG, this place sucks
Wow. I never thought that anyplace that sold alcohol could actually suck this much.

I, too, attended the event the above ladies are referring to, and I just want to be very clear that they are being reserved in their comments.

I thought the Clownsers (as I take it they are now called) were actually a joke. The Clownsers were wearing fancy boy cowboy boots, massive belt buckles, tight Wranglers, and the most ridiculous large black felt hats. A Mickey Gilly's bar on east Burnside? No way. Gotta be a costume.

The Clownser took my drivers license, looked at it for what must have been 30 seconds, then held it up next to my face and starred at me without blinking for a good 10 seconds. I almost pulled out my best lisp and asked "if you really find me that attractive, I know of a hill with a tent not to far away."

I was laughing to myself about what a great gag the door staff was when I rounded the top of the entrance stairs to what seems like a sea of 6 foot urban Cowboys, all with identical massive black felt hats. The entire wait staff was all dressed with leather corsets ala coyote ugly, the dance floor had a 6 foot mirrored Stetson rotating, and I could hear the pounding of line dancing on the floor above. And everywhere I looked was nothing but eyes above mustaches saying, "boy, I's gonna kick yer ass.."

Let me paraphrase the other highpoints of the evening:

- You could not get a drink at the bar without coming close to starting a fight. And I know that is a cliché, but I literally had to back out of two fights because Adam Cartwright wanted his little filly to get, I mean git her drink before me
- When ordering a drink, you got a sales pitch on whatever booze they were currently pushing. If you didn't say "well", they would lurch for the spendy stuff
- When we showed up they suddenly stopped serving food, yet 10 gallon hat wearing patrons were being served food
- The cost of drinks was on a floating scale. My friend was charged $10.50 for a G and T, while another was charged $5.50

The entire establishment looked on to the featured guest Roller girls as a nuisance, and without the grace you would expect toward a normal patron. I would only suggest this place to someone for the absolute humor of the experience while on ones way to a proper establishment.

Clowncers at Outlaws
I am also a member of the organization of which Dr. Twoskates speaks. I was leaving the 'party' at 1 am as Dr. Twoskates and two other members were trying to enter the event they had sponsored and organized. I know these ladies and 2 of the 3 DO NOT DRINK so had not been drinking when they were trying to enter the 'party'. I do not know if the 3rd lady had been drinking.
What I witnessed was appalling, disgusting, obscene at times, and, at the very least, an incredibly poor way to run a business. I should qualify that to say 'an incredibly poor way to run a business that wants to offer a service and make a profit'.
The bouncers, or 'Clowncers', rather, were loud, rude, and threatening not only to the 3 ladies mentioned above but also the ladies volunteering at the door collecting donations.
My experience was OK except for the unbelievably long wait for drinks and the fact that they were out of at least two rather commonly requested brands of whiskey.
I did, however, speak with another member of our organization who was also at the 'party'. She tells me that she was barred from using the ladies restroom by some man (a Clowncer?, I'm unsure) because there were, apparently, people in the restrooms smoking weed. Huh? Does that make sense? The Clowncers won't let in sober ladies because they were 'drunk' but they will protect the Lovers of the Leaf in the bathroom from getting interrupted? Hmmmmm. I think their business plan might need a little readjustment if this is a priority.
The Clowncers at Outlaws were acting ridiculous. And, lest they think their actions were macho or their abuse of power the knucklehead that hired them must have authorized, I would like for them to know they were not. They were senseless, clueless morons. And I am being very restrained.
Oh, and one more thing. Perhaps the Clowncers were overcompensating for weaknesses in other more personal aspects of their lives. A-hem.

Zero Hospitality Zero Efficientcy
Dear Portland and Seattle:
Please accept MY apology on behalf of my entire organization (you know who we are) for the lack of hospitality you received at Outlaws.
On Saturday February 4th my organization arranged to host a thank party at Outlaws as a gift to the Portland community, our volunteers, fans and families.
This is a beautiful ballroom with a great dance floor and ample space and tables to accomodate all of our needs.
When I finally arrived at around 1am after a ten hour workday and breaking down our entire event (which is a three hour process) my family and friends had already been inside for a couple of hours. I presented my ID at the door and was told that I was not allowed in because I was intoxicated. I explained that I had just arrived and hadnt had anything to drink but Orange Gatorade and water all day and that I was merely suffering from exhaustion from working on the event that Outlaws was currently, and partially hosting. I gentely explained that there were at least 100 people inside that knew me and know that I AM,in fact, A NON-DRINKER and indeed, just arriving at my own organizations party.
The door staff would not check go check my credibility and I explained that my entire family, my boyfriend my coworkers and teammates were all inside waiting for me. I explained that I was, in part, the organizer of this public event and that they should go inside and find the proprieter of Outlaws or a manager to check my qualifications, so that I may get in and take care of business. One of the men asked me what "proprieter" meant. After I gave him the definition- they told me to leave and the staff refused my request to go find my family. I at least needed someone kindly enough to notify my loved ones, who were inside, of my whereabouts and to come meet me outside on the sidewalk.
The door staff at Outlaws is paranoid, hostile and unreasonable.
They are also uninformed and lack any wisdom or any common sence.
I am a sober, hardworking lady that help pay for this party and probably the nights wages for some of the staff.
I was finally vouched for after 45min of negotiations.
This establishment will not be in business long.
It lacks in organization, communication among the staff and gets a ZERO rating for hospitality.
This is a great facility that lacks the management and staff to run it properly.
I predict they go under in less than three months.
Good job Outlaws for saying "Fuck you" to Portland when we were trying to say "Thank You"!
