BarFly's Review of Pala Fashion Lounge

Temporarily closed for remodel.

Midst the center of Portland's Old Town date rape district, Pala: A Fashion Lounge outfits the dance-happy few who choose Euro-style house beats above their neighbors' booty-shaking deliria.

Miraculously, Pala's Indonesian-inspired interiors don't embarrass the extended name, approaching an ambiance of which the models perpetually strutting runways on the bar's flat screen TVs may grudgingly approve. If nothing else, the long copper-topped bar just begs for Kate Moss to chop lines. Happy hour from 5-6:30 that includes garlic fries.

Happy hour

Pala is a nice change of pace when you live in old town but I don't bother with it for happy hour because they don't discount drinks, only food. When I asked why they said it's illegal to do so (????). Errr...are all the other bars in town aware of this? Yea, I'm not buying it either. Alrighty then, I'll spend happy hour at the renegade bars who blatantly buck the system and offer drink discounts until they all get shut down and Pala is the last one standing.

SUPPORT PALA!

pala is such a nice breath of fresh air to the banality of the baracuda/mcfadden's/voodoo block. i've been in there lately, though, on saturday nights and it's just DEAD by one. what gives? i know portland weather is slowing things down, but these are the kind of clubs that will go away if we don't support them - and i don't see any other clubs bringing in the names that pala is! (ok, except the om.)

Super fun!

Saturday Feb. 18 was my first time at Pala and I had a blast! The house music was by far the best I've heard in Portland and the crowd was great.

Hey now...

love, Love, LOVE that Pala! OK, so I go there a lot. But there's a reason - this place is like Ohm was back in the old days. Great DJ's, awesome underground vibe. Very much a Portland feel to it. Plus, in the summer, you can hang outside. C'mon, how many other places in Old Town have their own parking lot AND a cool brick facade of a burned down hotel???

Allison is a cool bartender

I don't care about their fashion connection, but Allison has been a great bartender every time I've been there. She's got that take no shit from people attitude, but she's really just a sweetie deep down, which turns out to be a sexy combo.
