BarFly's Review of Ponderosa Lounge

As if Oregon didn't already have enough to boast about, we are also home to one of the World's Top Ten Truckstops, which in turn, is home to the best country bar in Portland. Ginormous honkytonk easily seats several hundred, and its two Texas-size dancefloors are filled with boot-scootin'-boogiers most any night of the week. Ten gallon hats, tight Wranglers with satellite dish-size rodeo buckles, and shiny boots are standard issue for the multi-generational crowd. Great service!

Pool x4, sports on big screens x2, videocrack & games galore, throughout
No cover Sun-Thurs, $5 cover Fri/Sat ($2 w/CDL).
Tuesdays: Country karaoke.
Thursdays: djs & dancing (free dance lessons 7-8pm), no cover.
Fridays/Saturdays: live local and national touring acts.

Response to "Country Bar?"

Howdy! My name is Mike and I am the manager of the Ponderosa Lounge. The Ponderosa Lounge is a live music venue with Country music as the core. Yes we have branched out and invited some Rockabilly and Rock bands to play off nights at the Ponderosa. However are weekend core remains Country Music and Bands and we have been searching for new Country bands to bring in and play the Ponderosa. I would also like you to know that we will once again be having national acts (Country and other genres) coming through the Ponderosa. If you think a band is questionable call up the bar and ask someone what you can expect.

Enjoy! Mike

Country Bar?

The Ponderosa was a great joint back in it's day. Known to bring in some great Country Music National acts on their way through. Not only overpriced drinks and door cover, they have opened up their once Country Lounge" to some questionable metal rock bands. Used to a be a great place to kick up your boots. I hope they turn it into a Country Bar again so we can come back and dance.

Ok, I'm Partial to this place but...

I have to say it's a great place to dance, party with friends, meet new people, have a few drinks.

They're installing a new (much larger) dance floor this week (great for me since this is the lounge where I teach dance lessons)

They no longer charge COVER, unless there's a special show (National Act). They have great food, in the lounge and in the 24-hr restaurant.

Service: As always, could be better. It's best to hit the bar on your way in to purchase your first beverage. Then find a table and enjoy the live country music.

Tom Selleck mustaches ahoy

Awe-inspiring mix of gap-toothed Vancouver white trash, blue-collar good old boys and white yuppy pop country lovers. The drinks are expensive and the staff is iffy. I guess this is the place to come if you want to line dance or whatever. If you owned anything by Billy Ray Cyrus in the 80s and 90s and think Camaros and Thunderbirds are cool cars then this bar is probably for you.

Live bands

This bar has two dance floors, wide age range, and good drinks! You can't go wrong with a smoke free environment, live bands and great dance lessons.

Dance Lessons

We love the dance lessons with Ty & Andy. They are entertaining and make the lessons fun. We also especially like the smoke-free environment.
