BarFly's Review of Queen of Hearts

The Porlandia scene creeps further and further east every year. Fantastic or deplorable, depending on whether you like to put birds on things or prefer, well, whatever it is they prefer out that way. Queen of Hearts is the latest beneficiary/victim of this cool kids migration, and you know what? We're glad.

The Queen has shifted (with minimal aesthetic disruption) from a true biker bar (and we love those, we do) that you wouldn't let your little sister go to without some sort of vagina dentata apparatus, to a joint where her boyfriend's band might be playing. Not that the crowd's soft--the shows are hardcore and rockabilly, and we prefer to pick fights with folk singers and emo types--but what's that over there? Goodness me, it's a group of Sumerian Poetry majors from Reed! My, how times have changed. The beleathered hogheads show up every so often, order a beer and look around a bit confusedly, but it seems that they've mostly moved to Knucklehead's. (We'll have a full report on the diaspora soon--we need to be called "faggot" in a couple more places before we'll really have the full picture.)

Love this place!

The Queen of Hearts is the PERFECT homey dive bar. Beer prices start at just $2 and the bar food is affordable. Live music almost every night of the week and quaranteed Thursday - Saturday nights with no cover charge. Biker friendly but definitely a good mix of folks here, all coming together to relax and have a great time. The owner Joe is one of the greatest guys you'll ever meet and the bar staff have never disapointed. I gotta admit, I love this place!

Oh yeah!

Gotta go see Danny Hay Davis every Thursday night! Awesome bar, the bikers are chill, the bar tender is the best, and the owner is very friendly!

Sneakin' Out Fundraiser

Going on all day (and night?) Sat. 4/11/09. S.O. is going on tour with Pink Martini. They need cash to cover tour expenses. Heading over there sometime to check it out. Will review later. I am not a bar or band shill, just a fan.
