BarFly's Review of Raccoon Lodge
Rather off the beaten path, but the righteous beer is worth a trip to 'burbs. It looks like your basic sport-bar yahoo hangout, but owner Art Larrance is a key figure on the local beer scene. He was one of the chaps who started up Portland Brewing and was a founder of the annual Brewer's Festival at Waterfront Park. The food is a little pricey for burgers and fries, etc., but portions are monstrous. The Blonde Bock and Belgian Trippel are standouts on the suds side and the service is fast and friendly. Open 11:30am-12am M-F, 11:30am-1am Fri & Sat. $3.25 menu 3-6pm and 9pm-close M-F. Mondays: Free pool. Tuesdays: $2.75 pints all hours.

comparing to Mcmenamins or Market street pub this place has much better food, better beer, and is much cleaner. If I want a good burger and beer in SW PDX this is the place to go. Hands down better than the other two.
Downstairs bartender is a really friendly guy. Can't stand the rest of the place. Can be a little friendly-family for me and my wife during the day, but we hate children.
We just stick to the basement. Beers range from terrible to spectacular. I'm not exaggerating either, some of their brews are way off, and others are works of art. Makes it kind of interesting, wondering which one you'll get.
I only visited the restaurant (upstairs) last Saturday. The place was dead, although we were there a bit early, on the weekend of the Brewer's Festival. The beers were okay according to everyone in our party. The food was very good, but pretty typical northwest/meat and potatoes kind of fare. The atmosphere was unremarkable; it was very clean, sort of lodge-y in feel, but with really high ceilings which kind of ruined any coziness they might have been going for. It felt a little cafeteria-ish. They do have a beer garden out back that looks very nice for warm days. If I lived nearby, I would probably eat here occasionally, but it's definitely not a destination in itself for downtowners. McMenamins will give you a better brewpub experience.
I have been frequenting Raccoon Lodge since 1999. Prices on dinner items are a little high, but portions are generally large; the beer is good. I was there a week ago; our waitress took my son's food before he was done (snatched the plate, and said nothing). Brought the bill (again without saying anything) left it on the table. The manager was verbally abusive when I told him about it. I can't recommend the place anymore.
I was very pleased with the IPA it was a great one. The fries & Gardenburger are excellent and the dipping sauce is over the top. The downstairs bar is cool you can see the brewer and he even gave us a fresh sample to try right out of the vat! Worth the drive!
They've come out with a new beer in the last month or so that any beer drinker needs to try! It's not too tart or too sweet. Also, men & women both seem to like it, so it crosses that whole gender barrier. It far surpasses any other beer in this catagory. And, while you're there, you can eat some sweet potatoe fries with 4 different dipping sauces!
