I go to Red Cap all of the time because in my experience it has been one of the cheaper and more tolerable bars in this neighborhood.
I go to the happy hour there for the absolutely delicious fondue. It's only 3 bucks and it's amazing, you can split it between two people. It is generally really dead in there during the day, so I can chat with friends and pretty much not be bothered by other clientèles.
I really like the bartenders at red cap, they are generally super friendly and in my experience this has been the farthest anti-straight gay bar I've been to in this town. I'm a straight girl who loves gay bars, and they are very welcoming at red cap.
Ok, so the other times I go to red cap is on tuesday nights for 5 for 5 - it is incredible and promises to get you drunk for $10 (gotta tip on every drink, peoples!). I'm happy they opened up the dance floor on tuesdays. I always see familiar faces, friends, and have a great time no matter what every tuesday! The music is OK, nothing to go crazy about, but definitely fun and tolerable.
About the bouncers, they are doing their jobs to keep people respectful, which aint easy! I understand that militaristic responses towards violently annoying drunks is unhappy for everyone, to say the least, but they are not nearly as bad as oh say SILVERADO [where the bouncers beat people up regularly]. And they let back in those dumb drunk dudes the next week, give them second chances and all, which is cool if you ask me.
I definitely recommend this bar, for everyone!!

I am new to town and when I was visiting about 3 months ago I ran into the Red Cap. Coming from Vegas and a huge fan of "the four corners", I was in heavan. I thought I had found my new hang out. When I moved into town, it took a month to locate the club again. I finally found it and went with three of my friends, two female and one male. We are all straight, which I didn't think really mattered, but I guess it did to the bouncers. My one guy friend was cut off for no reason. And my other female friend went outside to smoke and wasn't allowed back in. When I asked why we were in essence being kicked out, we never got any answers. When my other girlfriend asked if it was because we were straight, the door guys laughed in our face. I am so sad because I surely thought I found my new hangout. But I refuse to ever return because of how poorly I was treated. Sounds to me after reading the other review that the bouncers are all on a power trip, which is a shame because the red cap will loose business and loyal customers.

I was a loyal customer to Red Cap. Dancing on Saturdays, copious alcohol consumption. I dropped at least a couple of hundred buck a month at this place. Well, no more. Tonight, the bouncers spent more time making a situation worse than then they did difusing it. To call this unprofessional is charitable. The point of a bouncer is to minimize the risk to the business. The bounces there tonight, but that business in a situation of serious liability which I may well pursue. Moreover, when i tried to intervene to difuse the situation and move it away from the establishment, I was physically restrained on a public street by employees of this establishment. Again, assault in a public atomspehere by the employees of what is supposed to be a friendly establishment. In short, this is unacceptable behavior for the staff of any bar. This place needs better management. End of story. I'm sick to death of the gay bars in this town. Just to clue you in... you are a third teir gay town at best, suck it up homos. Keept that in mind. My money will be spent elswehere from this point forward. A loss, once again, for stark street. Fools.

There are few things as pleasant as Sunday afternoons, in the summer, at the Red Cap Garage. Porch-style outdoor seating allows you to sit outside without being right on the street. Being that there are a lot of bars in the area, people watching is great. Happy hour drinks are cheap. You don't even have to be a gay fellow to enjoy this bar.
