BarFly's Review of Rose and Raindrop (CLOSED)
Looks like a classic old hotel lobby, minus the hotel. The bar side is a favorite of all types who flock to it for happy hour. The restaurant side is smoke free, and has big semi-circular booths that fit five or more friends. Aside from the discounted happy hour menu, the foods over-priced, and not all that, as they say in Gourmet Magazine. The service (with notable exceptions) ranges from surly to incompetent, to more than a little bit of both. Overall, has lots of great, unrealized, potential. Esoteric micros from $4. Food served till close. Open 11am-1am Sun-Th, 11am-2am Fri & Sat. Brunch served Saturdays and Sundays, 9am-2pm! $1.95-3.95 menu 4-6pm and 10-midnight M-F.

DROVE BY THERE TODAY IT MADE ME SAD! I hate growth when it knocks out the little guy so abruptly!
It closed at the end of the year (2006) to become a bank. I've loved it for several years now for it's quiet atmosphere, wi-fi, great beer selection, and nice staff. It will be missed.
I have been frequenting The Rose and Raindrop for about 8 months now and have found the staff to be very accomodating. Sometimes it;s really busy and they seem to be understaffed, but I have never gotten 'attitude' from my servers. The beer selection alone makes it worthwhile and now I find out it's going to be gone soon. Not fair. I don't want Rose and Raindrop to go away.
I like the RnR but the new menu is overpriced. I used to be a loyal regular, but with the new menu it's just not that appealing anymore.
We went there on Saturday, 02/04/2006. The place felt comfortable and the atmosphere was good. But the waitress was below any standards. She didn't seem very thrilled to serve us from the beginning. We got there around midnight and the place wasn't very crowded, so she should have been glad to see some customers. When we ordered, she didn't seem to know what kinds of beer they had. And throughout our being there she gave us some kind of attitude. But the s**t hit the fan when we were ready to pay (around 1:30). The bill seemed "a bit" higher than we'd thought, and there seemed to be items on it that we were sure we hadn't ordered. So we recalculated it and the totals didn't add up. When we asked her to recalculate it, she blatantly proclaimed that she "didn't have time for that." No time? The place was almost empty by now. What else would she need time for? (Sceeming on how to cheat other customers, maybe.) She finally aggreed to recalculate the total only, and it came to about $5 less than what she'd written on it before. But she refused to go over the individual items of which we were sure she had added extra ones too. I mean, come on, even if one or two of us had forgotten something we had, it wouldn't come out to a $30 difference. Out of options, we paid and left vowing never to return.
I don't know what she was thinking. Maybe she thought we were too drunk to realize her attempted fraud. (Guess what, we weren't.) Maybe with that attitude of hers she's not earning enough tips thoughout the night. So when the end of the night draws near she adds bogus charges to customers' bills to make up for the shortfall.
While the place seemed nice, they won't be seeing us again as long as that criminal waitress works there. I didn't get her name, but she worked there on Saturday night, February 4, 2006. That should be enough to identify her. So if anyone in charge reads this, you know what to do.
This place has a comfortable, engaging feel to it, but the drinks are only so-so. Nice place for a good beer, though, and my observation was that most of the people assembled there were sucking on micro brews. Not a lot of cocktailing going on. I wouldn't call the crowd eclectic...just mixed, and the music there seemed to go for the lowest common denominator, so as not to put off any married with children types that may have stopped in for a beer after running up the Visa card shopping somewhere nearby. The service is a bit slow, too. But it's a nice space inside. A better drink and vibe can be found at the Slow Bar across the street.
Top 5 in Microbrew / rare Import selection of beer around. The food is killer and the service was very friendly. The owner Tom will great his customers when around. The Tap handles are always rotating new beers and the Bottle selection is very exotic.
