BarFly's Review of Sextant Bar and Galley
A little off the beaten path but well worth the visit just for the vast patio and beautiful Columbia River view. The inside of the bar is equally spacious, with picnic benches for seating. Great place for big groups. Even better place for stargazing and chilling by the river in the summer. Close to airport, so expect some plane noise. Daily specials.
Pool x 2, MegaTouch, TV x 5. Full menu served till 11pm Sun-Thurs, till midnight Fri/Sat.

This place is in real need of a BAR RESCUE! The service is awful. Lost food orders, slow and rude service, shorted 1.75 on the bill. Too bad because the view is beautiful. Try Salty's next door for a more pleasant experience.
Make sure to pay cash staff over charge. ran my card three times. and food was not that good. drinks okay for the price. wouldnt go back.
The view from the patio is fantastic. The service can be a little slow, but I have never found the servers to be rude or difficult. It's the kind of place you lazily sip a drink and watch the boats go by. If you're in a hurry, go get some fast food. If you want to hang out with friends, have some cheap eats and drink the afternoon away, this is your place.
The Clam Strip Baskets are great, but the service/waitresses are rude as hell and snobby! I love the view from the restaurant and sitting outside on warm breezy days is always nice, but it's hard to get over the crappy service. Wish they'd actually hire some nice servers that WANT to earn their tips!
First time at this bar last Friday night after work. It was crowded outside due to a gorgeous day on the river. The service was a bit slow, but to be expected with the crowd. Our waitress was nice! Food was good and very reasonable. Our parents were in the restaurant biz so we know food and service. Looked like a bunch of guy regulars at the bar, music was loud for a while, but fun atmosphere. Yep, the bartender women were cute and the guys seemed to enjoy them ;) We were headed over to Salty's originally because we're a couple of older women in office dress, but I'm glad we stopped at this joint and will go back.
So this place has it all...the view is impeccable located on the Columbia River (minus the Airport noise), the patio in the summer is great for sunsets and some lazy drinking. The service is fast and easy on the eyes, and the blonde bartender is fun to watch and good at her job. The other bartender whose during the day is fun and nice too! They have pool tables and specials. Cool place!
my gal and i went to have a bite to eat and beer and had the night from hell food and the highest priced pbr we ever had!!!2.75 for pbr? thats right wear do u pay that?not only that, the burger we had came with some gray hair in it they said it was not any employee? when going to the restroom there was a gray hair lady in the kitchen? wow!! not only do they talk at you like your dumb the people that work there must be on something?? save your money and go to a place that has great food and service, this does not!!! and they should shut it down.....
I've been coming to the sextant for years and there's been several new young bartenders and waitresses hired that have me wondering. They seem to have breasts that appear to be too perfect, no complaint here, just wondering, 100% natural or enhanced? The place sure gets busy on weekends, they could use more help at those times, service suffers then, food is still good though.
Good food, nice patio ambience, but really, really bitchy red-headed waitress. I had finished my burger, but not the fries and she whisked my basket away before I could stop her. She also snatched up the dipping sauce while we still had onion rings in our baskets. We all shared the onion rings so that basket was empty. It wasn't 'in' the basket, but on the table. I suppose she thought we were through with the sauce since there weren't any onion rings in the basket, but don't you think she should have asked? One in our party should have had 25 cents in change, but it never came back. I know . . . it's only a quarter, but don't you think it's up to the customer to leave it or not? It's probably more aggravating because we were so ticked off by the end of the meal. Very brusque, never asked if we wanted anything else, not one single smile. Another waitress came over to fix the umbrella for us and make sure we were comfortable.
It's a great place for a bar, nice view, but the service is so horrible. The servers have their heads up their asses and are snotty and take forever to get a drink. I have been there on 3 separate occasions and everytime, its like that.
Good food, cheap beer, Great view of the river (and the servers)! What more could you ask for? They treat their regulars like family. Really busy place in the summer, sometimes takes a long time to get service, but it is worth the wait.
I have always liked the feeling at the Sextant. It's a nice place to sit and shoot the breeze on a lazy afternoon. It's fun to watch the sailboats drift by on a sunny day. The food is average but cheap and the beer is cheaper than most places.
There dishwasher doesnt work well. There bar glasses are nasty. we had to return both our drinks and the glasses they put them in the second time were also dirty. I was picking lemon from the inside of the glass and the drink I had, had no lemons in it. When I told the waitress she got very nasty and wouldnt let me say a word. She said they checked all there glasses and they werent dirty and if I wanted to continue to drink I could drink a beer from the bottle only. I was not happy being yelled at by a young female in a bar. I will never go there again. Saltys is right next door.
