BarFly's Review of Side Door
My Father's Place's straighter sister reveals its old Portland roots in exposed brick walls, and lovely old wide-plank floors. Local and organic ingredients highlight a value-priced menu. Work of local artists changes monthly.
Pinball and a rocking jukebox take up the rear

Okay guys here is the real Happy Hour, not sure where the 20oz Grolsch thing came from. Happy Hour is from 4pm-6pm and 10pm-Midnight. The deal is that you get to enjoy a 20oz Imperial for the price of a 16oz pint. Our typical line up is PBR for $2 Guinness for $4 and 8 tap handles that rotate select local micro's for $3.50 Sorry for any confusion
the 20oz grolsch thing does not exist. they occasionally have it in 15.1 oz bottles (go figure) for 3.75. the happy hour hours are as posted, but it's 3.25 micros and $2 pbr. this is straight from the mouth of whoever picked up the phone not 5 minutes ago.
Yes indeed, this fine neighborhood bar is known for a festive atmosphere, first rate booze selection, excellent juke box and - I dare say - flirtatious servers...Saucy!! My only "neg" on this place is the lack of drink specials. I have asked various Servers about the Grolsh special (as per the Barfly listing) several times, and received a careless shrug and a firm "No" each time. Maybe the owner feels that everything is just peachy as is, but the take-it-or-leave-it attitude on pricing strikes this reviewer as being out-of-touch with the times. Too bad; the Side Door would pack-em-in with just a little nod to the patrons' budget.
This really small, very cool place has a commitment to local booze like no other. And no, my fellow drinkers, not just the typical Portland cool devotion to beer, but a almost religious passion to serve local spirits. Sure the food is great, and the wait staff is awesome, but, when Cricket Club is your WELL Gin?!/?!?! Yes, oh yes, I will be back.
