This place has an amazing Tuesday night open mic show....the hostess is hot stuff. Oh....the food is great too....really nice bar. But I can't say enough about the Tuesday night show...go up there and play a set...if you don't play...be the audience, it's a real treat!
Best bar menu in Portland bar none. Reasonable prices, excellent conversation. I can't believe how much the new owners have improved the place.
This is a great little bar. Now that it's under new ownership it's really turned it's self around by getting rid of all the toothless people and drawing a more younger hipper crowd. They have a great blues band that plays here on the 1st Sunday of every month and i also hear that they are going to start having band/gigs play every Sunday. Yes, they do still have Karakoe on the weekends but hey it's kinda fun! They have great booth seating in the back, a pool table, great food - some of the best bar food i have ever had, it's dark and the staff is really friendly. Often times the owner will even sit down and have a beer with you! It's definatley a hidden gem. Come check it out!
Oh and the drinks are really cheap, only $3 bucks! You cant beat that!
This bar is great for bringing friends on the weekend to do karaoke or see a band. It's also great for solo weeknight drinking. It's dark without being dingy and there is lots of wood. The fries aren't too salty and the beer is just right. Friendly staff doesn't hurt their cause.
They have parking - nice.
This place has a great dive-bar feel and a great mix of demographics. Look for the hispanic crowd hanging out at the pool tables and singing tejano, while a mix of older and younger people hang out on the other side and have a good time. I've never gotten a bad vibe from this place, and most everyone who sings really tries to do well, instead of just posing like a buffoon for their friends.
Stumbling upon a pleasant hang-out is always appreciated in my own personal life. Slim's has easily covered the bases that I require. Good food, great staff, interesting and diverse patrons, wide selection, and even wireless connections (I'm sitting at the bar right now.) An evening spent in St. Johns should most definitely include an extended stay at Slim's. The only aspect that might be an issue for people is the one solitary pool table, but I've never had trouble playing and I have met a grip of cool people while milling about waiting for my turn (which always presents itself quickly). Looking for a relaxed atmosphere brimming with potential? Head to Slim's . . .
Wow! What a pleasant surprise to see the changes in this local hangout. When you go, be sure to sample Thurs, Friday or Saturday evening food in this great hidden treasure. Amazing food options to eat with your PBR and what a difference a trained chef makes!
