BarFly's Review of Gil's Speakeasy
Sleek, genderless, seemingly-antiquated though rigorously tended, easy to learn and impossible to master - the shuffleboard renaissance among local hipsters makes every bit of sense, and The Speakeasy mirrors it's chosen game perfectly. Almost hidden below inner-southeast apartments - and why doesn't every sizable apartment building have a bar? So much more useful than laundry rooms - the tiny space is barely two tables in length, just room enough to house stylish yuppies furtively drinking their lunch or the moon-eyed stares of couples drifting away from nearby Plan B.

Love this place. Hide away with cool peeps and awesome bartenders with enough personality to totally entertain.
I personally think the regulars at the Speakeasy are a delightful, educated and extremely good looking lot. Their complex and sophisticated conversation may be beyond some, but blow the rest of us away. The bartenders are courteous and attractive(I'm talking about you, Peaches). Go to the Speakeasy today. Like she said, don't be a pussy, pussy.
I only let the review go through because it mentioned a switchblade, which always makes one look like a bad ass.
If that incident happened over a year ago, why are you writing about it? Slow day at the office? Each time I've been to the Speakeasy the regulars have generally kept to themselves. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but get over it already, it's been a year!
I went here with a group of 15 people and ordered a round of 4 pints for me and some friends. A guy sitting at the bar took my boyfriend's drink and then made fun of his sideburns. This man then pulled out his switchblade pocketknife and tried to impress me by showing me his knife-slinging tricks while trash-talking my date. The bartender gave us a replacement beer for the one that the regular had stolen, and mentioned that the guy does this kind of stuff all the time. As we were leaving the guy intentionally tripped one of the people in our group and they exchanged some harsh words. We left, the words continued outside, and this regular pulled out a freaking gun! The bartenders ran out and encouraged everyone to leave & not to call the police.
That was over a year ago and I haven't been back since. The bartenders (and the owner) didn't seem to care that this regular was a complete ass and disenfranchised a large group of customers who would have probably come back often to their establishment, because it's right in the neighborhood.
