BarFly's Review of Tennessee Red's

With Southern cuisine universally assumed to be both overpriced and under-sanitized by the monied Ladd's residents that keep Tennessee Red's restaurant afloat, the otherwise prefab rib joint's allowed a rag-tag, lived-in dinginess that well serves its late-night mission. Once the baby-backs are removed from the smoker and older couples return to their neighboring manses, a rather different crowd fills the wooden picnic tables and superbly-stocked juke box. The eclectic sampling of bartender acquaintances and neighborhood dwellers working through benders Saturday nights return to pass the mic for casually brilliant Monday karaoke and prop up the bar throughout the week with sparkling repartee and welcoming cheer.

I love this place! We didn't show up in time for food, but the bar RAWKED. I think the $2 well drinks helped, or was it the free pool or the super cool bartender. I don't remeber his name but he has the best bar tricks and puzzles. Check this place out!

PS Stiffness? The cocktails were stiff, and get a 10, but it was very laidback, so there Red's gets a 4.

This is my neighborhood spot, and I love it! Great BBQ, until 9pm and then the bar takes over. The service here is exceptional! I introduced myself to Jack the bartender once, and ever since then he has called my by name, and had my cocktail ready for me when I belly up to the bar. He has friggin' ESP. The other patrons are intelligent, interesting and very friendly. Red's is the best example of a livingroom bar I have found in Portland. Come in, get comfortable, I'll see you there!

I love this restaurant. Hard seats, dirty floor, blaring j. box and TV, it smell a little, but the food is great. Good price, great place to hang out with friends and soak in the inner- SE. It reminds me of old school pdx. Not a lot of food for non-meat eaters.
