BarFly's Review of Thirst Wine Bar & Bistro

For a town so drearily obsessed with bridges, we don’t pay much attention at all to the river running through Portland, and the architectural smudge upon the waterfront known as Riverplace – rather like a 80s yuppie rendition of those shabbily prefabricated “old west” towns scattered about Eastern Oregon – seems as good a reason as any to move to higher ground.

The rather brilliantly named Thirst combines all of the grand Riverplace trademarks (impossible parking though a surprisingly far walk from civilization, Los Angeles prices for Sacramento aesthetics, diffident staff, lackluster cuisine, inchoate longing for shoulder pads) within a wine bar of magnified acoustics and, shall we say, approachable menu fond of the warm crab dip.

Eternally reminiscent of an ill attended engagement party for unlovely couple held at airport lounge, Thirst is at least damnably near the Willamette. One could jump.

Too little for too much...

Not a bad list, good nibbles, but high priced and a truly chintzy pour. Went back for confirmation and can add that the service is both inconsistent and sometimes downright surly.

  4. Where you 86ed for being a complete douchebag? Are you the perpetually unsatisfied bitch? The bartender's psycho ex? Are you copy & pasting the same review from/to Yelp, Citysearch, etc? Then you undermine the value of user reviews. Don't waste your time posting.
