BarFly's Review of Twilight Cafe & Bar
After the neighboring pool hall (and when exactly did pool halls become more family friendly than diners?) curtailed The Twilight's nightly garage/punk shows, the stage was transformed toward a game room of their own and attention was re-doubled upon what, perhaps, they always did best - breakfasts.
Most of their menu's left to the most important of the day (an intriguing malange of eggs, gravy, jalapenos, and the more-dangerous pork products) and, smartly, considering their clientele's hours, it's all served til near close. The Bloody Marys and Irish Coffees are excellent, as well, though most of the crowd trading stories along the wraparound counter, area rockers lingering from the old venue days, stick to Pabst and Jameson straight.
Big Buck Hunter & Ping Pong for game time fun.

This place ROCKS! It is by far the place to hang! Albeit a bit difficult to find if you don't know it's there....the food & service is simply amazing! Where else in SE can you find cheap, made to order breakfast served all day? The staff is over the top friendly and they have live music to boot! This makes The Twilight Cafe the most unique restaruant/venue in Portland!!!! I LOVE THIS BAR
Well I first went to Twilight for lunch b/c it's located near my work. I went with a bunch of co-workers and we had a good time. After work we all went back got some drinks. They have really good prices and a cool atmosphere. The owners were so happy that we brought in a large group that they hooked us up with Jello Shots. Now we are all hooked on this place! Many good nights at Twilight. :)
Awww. Come on. Give the Twilight a chance. We are new owners who took over in Jan. 08 and the place is now the best. The food a beyond good, the servings are huge, and the prices are affordable. We still have great Bloody Mary's but we now also have our own garlic pepper vodka to make them even better. Bad food in the past? It won't happen again. Come on back and give us another try.
Glad to see the Twilight is booking bands again, still with the free door and cheap beer. I don't eat there, so I can't tell you about bit*hing about the food, but they have rock and beer to match your budget.
Just not the same since new ownership. Used to go there 2x week at least but not anymore. Decided to give them a try again today only to have rotten bacon--disgusting! They used to have the best breakfasts and bloddy marys in town---miss the old staff and cooks.
The Aventines and Night Slaves just played there. Think they're making a grand comeback thanks to Zach the tunes dude and his marvelous sound system--a pleasure.
So as of June/July the Twilight has new ownership. Unfortunately, things have really gone downhill. I used to go here twice a week for the great food and bloody mary's and the most delicious bacon I've ever had. I've gone twice since the ownership change and the bacon was undercooked and tasted totally rotten. They used to play some pretty cool offbeat music on the speakers overhead but now the only music I can hear is the cooks in the back. The only break in the canned kitchen music is the rancorous and annoying laughter of the new serving staff. Polite enough but the older lady really belongs in a greasy spoon. What character this place had has been lost to blandness. Hopefully they will work out the kinks in a few months. Until then I'm not going back.
The food is great. The people who work there are really nice. I would recommend going there for the food alone. The location is very easy to get to and I live in the neighborhood and I do not feel that is it that bad of a neighborhood. TRY IT SOMETIME.
Due to complaints from the billiards place next door, the owners of the Twilight took out the stage and they now have some games and free pool. Good drink specials, the breakfasts are great, and they have a smokin hot new bartender.
