BarFly's Review of Vertigo
Formerly The Empire Room.
Though the staff is entirely nice, I've been struggling for weeks to come up with anything to say about Vertigo. It's comfortable enough, thus a great place to start your evening before heading up the Blvd to the Stumble Zone triangle, but don't expect any other wows.

What a fun night it turned out to be! Went to Vertigo with four other friends Sat. night & had a real blast. Despite being a cold night, the place was packed full. Vertigo's staff was very friendly and food & drinks were served quickly. A local band, "Tortune", gave their first performance tonight and the crowd really loved them. The atmosphere was just great - lots of laughter & yes, you can actually hold a conversation. Will definitely visit again!
Jeff, let me guess... Your taste is superior to everybody's. Why don't you put down what you would play in the jukebox. So that we can be dazzled by your amazing taste.
You know, while I'm no fan of Creed or Nickleback, and generally would never be found in Vertigo, although it's an OK place in it's own right, there are actually people who like those bands. Many people, in fact. Welcome to the real world.
Garret, some people like Nickelback, and their money spends the same as yours. Don't be a bitchy little primma donna about the music. You don't want to be that guy.
The jukebox is horrible. Any bar that allows the soothing sounds of Scott Stapp and Nickelback to be heard should really be talked to.
The staff is nice enough. I wouldn't ever go to this place if they didn't have outdoor seating though.
I've been drinking here a lot lately, it's a nice change of pace when you're burned out on Barmuda. At Sewickly's someone will hit on you even if your large boyfriend is right next to you, it can be hard to find a place to sit at BOG, I don't always want to listen to what they have on t.v. at Tanker, and I can't get comfortable in Space Room. Verigo is just friendly, clean, non-sleazy and good pours. I can go here alone without feeling like a loser, and nobody's ever bothered me or been unfriendly. Remember Space Ace? They have it in their mutiple arcade game, and one of these days I'm going to get past the first screen without getting gruesomely killed.
My favorite thing about any bar is a relaxed atmosphere, which allows you to have a great time hanging out with your friends, whether the bar is busy or not. Vertigo is it for me! I love it. The bartenders are great, the drinks are delicious (try the grape press) and its a clean, classy and upbeat place. It is definitely my new favorite place to grab drinks with a friend! When the bar is busy its a great time for all, when its not so busy you have the full attentiveness of the wonderful staff and you feel like its your own little place. Its the best!
Vertigo is just what Hawthorne strip needed. Very friendly people both bartenders and bar regulars, descent priced drinks, with good lighting, and you can hear one another.
The first time I went to Vertigo it was a regular's birthday, and I had to all but fire off a flare gun to get some service. I've been back four times since then, and my opinion of the place has changed; I love it. The bartenders, while sometimes understaffed, try their damnedest to make sure everyone is taken care of. Their drink specials are reasonable, and prices are pretty average, which is how I would describe this place. Average, comfortable surroundings where you can meet some people and get some good food and pints in before continuing on. The massive multi-game arcade machine gets props, the expensive digital jukebox does not.
