Leaving aside the questionable location – a, um, strip mall midst the clubs comprising lower southeast’s red light district – this wine shop/arcade/nightspot provides a bizarre assortment of delights, so weirdly diverse that it’s easy to imagine the owners using a dartboard (or, at least, several bottles of the house plonk) when deciding which amenities should be offered.
Considering the dubious locale and its lascivious sounding moniker, patrons who wander in expecting something more ribald and less… well, haphazard will likely be confused by the bright lighting that greets them upon entrance and the thumping bass emerging from the next room’s dance area.
A dizzying array of wines and beers can be purchased, and, for a mere $5 corkage fee, the ambience of Powell Blvd can be enjoyed by those poor souls too weak to open their own bottles or tired of sipping wine from dirty Yahtzee cups.
Alas, those who venture forth midst one of the many pre-planned celebration will likely find that the single bathrooms were designed for those with more, shall we say, nefarious purposes than the free flowing incontinence of massed tipplers. One doesn’t buy wine (or wine nights for the gals), after all, they just rent.
I checked out Vino Vixens on a Friday night back in November. I was very impressed with the amazing wine selection as well as their knowledge of various wines, including vintages, regions, etc. They will pour it through a decanter for you if you wish and bottle your wine up for you when your leave. Definately gave our group a chance to try some amazing wines. The atmosphere is great, extremely confortable, and a great place to met up with friends after a long week. Not too fond of the corking fee... but I'll deal with it. Deinately a place to check out if you want a relaxing, low key evening.
