BarFly's Review of Whiskey Bar & Lounge
It’s tough to fight for the relevance of a post drum/bass nightclub these days, or any version of nightclub that involves a European utopian notion of blissed-out rhythmic heaven. The original Ohm was ramped up by Dan Reed’s credibility as Portland’s granular version of new wave, and was certainly the only heterosexual bar of the late ‘90s that opened past 2 am and centered on whatever ecstasy that dancing represented to the sincerely cynical postgraduates of the age.
Whiskey Bar, despite the 180-degree turnaround suggested by the name, is aiming to milk the same spirit of Ohm in its heyday, when Dahlia churned out weekly vocal gymnastics, drum ‘n’ bass devolved through jungle into two-step, and break beats skittered across the Aquanetted Old Town blocks with sad consistency.
Now, what the new incarnation aims to accomplish with a wholly unrefurbished space and a wholly unrefurbished musical or business concept remains a mystery.
Perhaps it is just as beautiful as whatever is buried under rainbows. We wish everyone well, in almost complete incomprehension. Click your heels three times and say it with me: There’s no place like Ohm, there’s no place like Ohm, there’s no place like Ohm. Review to come soon.

How can you not like this place? In world where cheap, snobby hipsters ruin everything I find this bar to be a perfect blend of everything. Forget about OHM BarFly, you are living in the past. Things change, people move forward. This place is doing the same. If I have to go downtown for anything then this is the place I will check out. It has yet to dissapoint.
I really like this place. They have cheap drinks, free pool, good food, and a great vibe. Check it out for sure.
I ran across the whiskey while bar hopping last Saturday and found it to be quite a nice place. The free pool is a bonus and the overall atmosphere is chill. I enjoyed it!!
I was surprised by how much this place had changed from the previous venue. I'm finding myself there more frequently, as I am a huge fan of their late night happy hour. Not only is the food great, they have cheap drinks so I don't have to pay a ton to get a nice buzz. They have cool bartenders, free pool and a jukebox in the back room and a ton of whiskeys I haven't tried... yet:) So glad to have a nice, new, chill place to hang out!
