Northeast Trivia Tonight at Peter's 19th Hole
Don't let your competitive spirit moulder during the monsoon season . . . have some friendly indoor fun (or exact ruthless vengeance upon your vilest foe - your choice) at my trivia night! Come on down to Peter's any Wednesday night at 8 PM (not to be confused with "McPeet's" down the road) on the corner of NE Fremont and 57th Ave (more bar info at http://www.barflymag.com/bar/peters-19th-hole.html). It's free to play, and the bar supplies prizes (usually free drinks and appetizers). They also run drink specials for the length of the competition, which lasts about an hour and a half. Team size is limited to five; any more people than that can easily break into two separate teams. Questions are about half pop culture and half actual book learnin' . . . here are some of the rounds from which I cull my devious challenges:
CHOTCHKIES: miscellaneous trivia, including the Token Sports Question.
YOU COULD BE A CONTENDER!: Natalie Portmanteau (movie title meld), movie quotes, or movie song ID.
WHO BRINGS THE HEAVY?: all manner of scientific inquiry (the title comes from a student who asked a teacher friend of mine this question in an effort to understand gravity).
PICASSO'S PLAYHOUSE: craft something from playdough and write a caption (past commissions have included leprechauns with rainbow booty, new presidents with improved constitutions, moon people with messages to earthlings, & David Hasselhoff moments).
WHO AM I? I AM A WALRUS!: I drop information about a celebrity or historical figure of some kind, one piece at a time. The sooner you guess, the more points you get (the title comes from a mumbled Anthony Michael Hall quote a la "Breakfast Club").
YOU GON' GIT YER FEELINGS HURT: history, geography . . . basically social studies (my Social Studies teacher in Middle School used to utter this phrase, before opening a can of richly deserved whup-ass). POTATO POWER: TV and movie trivia.
WORD UP: novel quote ID OR literature, poetry, grammar, vocabulary, theater, comics, etc.
WHAMMY!: ya never know (past rounds have challenged teams' knowledge of Thomas Jefferson, Saturday Night Live cast members, US state quarters, Stephen King novels, etc.). I will sometimes have GUEST HOSTS for this round.
I DON'T FEEL TARDY: ID title and artist from brief song clips, AND rock out at the same time!! DOUBLE POINTS available here - bring a ringer!!
One more thing . . . I wasn't going to say anything about this, but I thought you should know . . . I overheard some people say last week that they thought were were chicken and wouldn't show up this Wednesday. You're not going to let them get away with that, are you?!?!
