BarFly's Review of North 45
Squeeky clean nautically themed bar in the NW 21st stumble zone serves up Belgians, booze, and delicious snacks to a surprisingly diverse clientele.
The (entirely non-smoking) patio is excellent in the summer months, and is best enjoyed in the early evening. Though, beware the early hours, as the "minors welcome" sign beckons the fleece and stroller crowd to let their crotchfruit to run amok.
The later hours bring in the B&T crowd, who struggle desperately to pretend that they aren't there with the sole intent of creatively swapping DNA.

Here right now for happy hour. Service is poor despite fun atmosphere. Food and drinks are good but there are definitely better happy hour deals to be had elsewhere
Popped in on a Saturday afternoon for a burger and beer... service was fast, burger was great and the beer cold! Very clean, nice layout, great looking bar! The place was about 50% full... people from mid to late 20s to late 60s or early 70s. We'll be back!!!
It never fails when people dis the service at an establishment I have the exact opposite experience and N 45 was no exception. The service was excellent, even though we mixed things up by going from the front sidewalk area to the back patio right after ordering. Our waitperson just handed us over to someone else and she took great care of us.
The HO menu was OK, love the chicken sliders and mac & cheese, the calamari needed to spend an extra minute in the hot grease but otherwise very tasty. We will definitely be back.
The food is boring, the crowd is a cross between the birkenstock gang and old hippies. Service was OK, food boring, music too loud for young children's ears. They say you can bring you kids, we will not do that again. Picnic tables are uncomfortable and there really is no landscaping. It is just alot of boring picnic tables. Much nicer inside.
This place would be great if you could get some service. I've been there several times and sent friends each each time the service has been disappointing. In fact, the last time we had to leave as we waited 15min and still didn't get service!!
I've never seen a bar in this area, with a wider liquor selection, at a better value, than N45. Fantastic service and Josh (the owner) is an awesome dude. However, it is not your typical "Portland Pub", with limited beers on tap (4-5 on tap, with only one Oregon brewery). It is a great neighborhood bar and the patio is awesome (about half the size of 21st B&G).

There are so many new great bars on NW21, do not bother with North 45. The quality of food is poor and the people it attracts are very uncool. The staff are not well versed on the food or drink. Slow service, nice deck out in back.
Surely has little grasp of irony. No surprise there. The mussels at North 45 are good, however.
Do people really go out these days just to be seen? Apparantly these reviewers do...If that's the case, you can see me at the Yen Ha.
In the past month I've been to North 45 several times - each time the atmosphere, music, food and drink were excellent. They have a great balance of local and international flavor. They have a nice buzz of conversation in the air, but you can still have a normal comversaion and hear your firends. Best of all - its non-smoking and well vented so you don't smell like the place when you leave. Overall, after 4 visits I'm ready to say that North 45 has a big lead in the competition for the Best Small Bar in PDX for 2007! Haven't been yet - you'll love it! Cheers & Happy New Year to all! JLo
This has quickly become my favorite bar in NW PDX. A superb appetizer menu, great micros on tap, and one of the best selections of liquors around. Donít be surprised if the owners welcome you into the bar and share a beer with you.
Does any one else think this bar and its patrons look like they're out of an Abercrombie and Fitch ad? I love the food, the service is great, and damn those fries are good. Too bad everyone in the place is so good looking- I just want to go in for some late night frites in my p.j.s but would feel under dressed.
A place to be seen. Always the best possible description of a place. I'll be there tomorrow.
To say the least, North 45 is a sizeable upgrade from it's wimpy predecessor. Despite being two months new, the place flows with character and charm. The staff, including it's strapping young propietor who has surely charmed his share of males and females alike, is top notch in terms of service and knowledge. To say the least, North 45 bridges the gap for the neighborhood pub and the new place to be seen.
I have been to North 45 a half dozen times since it opened last month and I have been more and more impressed every time. Their food is FANTASTIC (try the mussels and fries), the liquor selection is the best in town, and the ambiance can't be beat - period.
