BarFly's Review of Roscoe's
An ultimate “man cave” tucked away in Southeast, a haven for the avid beer drinker, and for those seeking said men. Clubhouse vibe pervades, with crowd-appealing booths and couches, and makeout-friendly dark corners.
Skinny alleyway patio out back, perfect for re-enacting Star Wars’ garbage masher scene, is heated and welcoming to unclaustrophobic smokers. Although the game, any game, is inevitably playing, you will see no backwards-hat wearing douches doling out high-fives, and pouring kamikazes down their girlfriends' throats—it's much more of a beer geek hangout, than a straight-up sports bar.
Sixteen good beers on tap (many rotate on a monthly basis), as well as a nice bourbon selection. Kick-ass Southern fare, including some of the best catfish this side of Arkansas.

Add your own review or commentSat at the table for well over 10 minutes. Once the beers were empty we sat another 10 minutes before having to walk up and order our own. The beer selection is good, the staff needs to become unemployed. At some point menus would have been nice.
It seems if you are a unknown you are treated as such. The staff act as if you are putting them out. OK, your exemplary service deserves equal gratuity! Is it that hard to be just somewhat nice? If you have never been here go to the observatory's back bar!!! Just around the block. The servers at Roscoe's better get a clue and quit bitchin about no tips!!!!
Roscoe's is great - Outstanding food done by cooks that pride themselves in the art of their craft. Incredible beers on tap, frequently with 1 or 2 obscure beers that can't be found elsewhere, and strong drinks poured by cool pretentiosless bartenders, especially Pete and Bianca. The crowd is diverse but boasts a dominant crowd of cool laid back folk that you're likely to find at bars like The Goodfoot, Dots, and Nightlight. The "smoking lounge" alley is sweet too, especially when its raining and when this one guy messes around with his harmonica out there. Roscoe's is trying to get into the art thing too and they're off to a good start. When the jukebox isn't playign cool tunes, the staff is with their ipods, making sure to keep the vibe goin' strong. Check it out, Roscoe's is two thumbs up, and they have "Sloppy Tots" which should be branded as the quintessential PDX bar appetizer. Love it!
This bar has gotten into the act of having some pretty good beers on draft. This past week beers from DogFish Head, Avery, Terminal Gravity, Everybody's Brewing, and about 8 more taps. Jute Box is always rockin and two pinball machines.
i'm not sure what the place was like back when the original barfly review was written, but it is way off. this is just a cool, friendly neighborhood bar with excellent cajun food and a great happy hour. pinball, pool, video poker, friendly barstaff and regulars -- really all you could ask for in a neighborhood dive bar. no pretensions here, just a cool mix of locals and working folks out to have a mellow good time. and the happy hour prices can't be beat.
My girlfriend just moved out to the 82nd & Se Stark/Burnside area. We desperately needed to find a bar that felt like home. Roscoe's is it. It has everything that a dive in inner NE or SE has, but isn't as busy as often. Good selection and prices, with free pool on Sunday make this a must. Its an island of comfortable in the middle of a sea of awful, 82nd ave. You can find us there several times a week, when we're not bouncing around my inner NE hood. The only downside, the just 21, not from the immediate neighborhood kids who blitz the pool room for hours on end, without warning.
you should ask for the octopus for a little late night snacker. jedidiah will serve it any way you like it and you won't regret it.
Great place to hang out and get a few drinks. Good late-night food and the staff is really friendly to a bunch of loud, smelly, drunk rugby players that come straight from practice. I'll definitely be back.
OK, since Debbie wrote a glowing review of Roscoes I thought I should check it out again. She is right, it's a TOTALLY different place now with new ownership. Strong cheap drinks, good food, very clean, friendly service, and Great entertainment. Live Jazz on Mondays, Blues on Tuesdays, Karaoke on Wednesdays, More live music on the weekends. NO cover charge! Plus an all you can eat buffet on the weekends. I must say I was VERY impressed and will Definitely going there often. The only complaint I had was the pool cues didn't work for me, but maybe I just suck at pool.
I read the Barfly review and was shockingly surprised to find a cozy, friendly, and personable atmosphere. New Ownership! The scene was casual and relaxed. A large mix of people all intermingling for the night. The "Yanks" were on stage and soon everybody was getting down to some explosive guitar licks. Dancing, rocking, groovin all night. Service was personable and menu and kitchen accomodating in the late hours. Great time, great atmosphere, and it wasn't smoke filled and dirty. Wow! Going back tonight for some more of those rocking blues from the YANKS and great people.
We expected Roscoes to be a dive, but we thought it might be kind of like a wichita pub wannabe so we decide to check it out. We arrived around 8:30 on Saturday night, they weren't terribly busy. The first thing we noticed is the SMELL...awful B.O. mixed with something equally offensive but indiscernible. We decided to sit down anyway to at least see how the service was. The table was filthy, in fact the whole place looked like it hadn't seen a mop/broom/sponge in quite some time. We waited for about 15 minutes but were completely ignored. Definitely wont be going back here again.
