Getting to Whiskey City Rock Bar

Looks to be about as dead as it was as whiskey city. Maybe they should paint over the rock and roll pizza sign already.
Wow, talk about horrible. I don't know which was worse... the horrible music/production, bar tender, or the owner. You guys all lack class. I hope your bar gets shut down.
So I went to check this place out after I heard there was a major remodel after rock n roll pizza closed down. As the other review stated, there was supposed to be live music 7 nights a week. Upon entering I was quite impressed by the nice remodel job and the fact that the entire venue is now 21+. However, The place was totally dead except for a few of the bartender's lady friends, and this was on a Thursday. I think the owner needs to realize that in order to make it as a rock venue bar in Portland you 1. need a GREAT booking agent to get in some decent acts 2. Most importantly, need to advertise who is playing in the local papers and pay for ad space for your bar. 3. Keep your website UP-TO-DATE with who is playing and a calender of events. Only 2 months after open, their site was out of date. I wish this place luck- they're going to need it.
The advertisements stated "live Music 7 Nights per week" Sounds great. Last nights show was suppose to start at 6PM. There were 4 acts booked. Being a fan of live music I though this should be a great evening. My wife and I arrived way early to get some food, paid the $5 cover. The bar tender was very friendly and honest about what to order. She was right. The first musician started about 6:30 and was a very talented 13 year old who was proficient on keys and guitar and had a very nice voice. Stage presence was not great but hey she was 13! We were very impressed.
I wish I could say it got better but....The young girl finished and we had the pleasure of listening to dead silence for 90 minutes while we waited for the next act to arrive. So my wife and I made the best of it. We had drinks and caught up on all the family gossip. I stepped outside in the fenced in beer garden to take a call and had the chance to see a very colorful pot pipe, loaded lying on a chair. Being the responsible party that I am I waived over the bouncer to handle the situation and was met with arrogance, rudeness, and complete disrespect. He thought I was an idiot for bringing to his attention and didn't do anything about it. So I grabbed the bar tender and she was very apologetic and disgusted quickly disposing of the paraphernalia.
After all this the next act finally started and WOW was it worth the wait. The kid was Jake Allen from Michigan and he played his heart out all originals with a couple of covers that were requested. The musicians in the the room were mesmerized by his performance. This kid is going to be a star. We were very impressed and would recommend you check out his tour schedule and buy a CD. We did.
Finally, the last act came on and what a let down. The guy was totally drunk, falling off his stool, couldn't play a note or sing. He stopped and re-started songs several times. Needless to say we prepared to leave. Fortunately Jake Allen came to the rescue. He helped the drunk out of a very embarrassing situation and played the remainder of his set at the request of the entire bar.
The saddest part of all was as we were leaving we over heard the guy who promoted the gig tell Jake Allen he wasn't getting paid. Stating "bad night at the door". This was the same guy who played video poker all night long and was letting people in for free. Pathetic.
Overall I would suggest the owner of this place hire a new production manager, fire the bouncer, and give the bar tender a raise. Nice try Whiskey City Rock Bar but we won't be back. You have to much mediocre competition down the road we would rather visit.
