Getting to Yorgo's (CLOSED)
I like the changes. Food you can eat and great selection of micros and top end well booze. And the Yorgo Burger - f'in monster! Cheap food and drink - and no more stink - I'm down.
The place has been cleaned up nicely.
More games, if you're into that.
Yes, Yorgo's was a shitty dive, but it seems to have lost it's soul with the change in ownership.
Lame new feel--the atmosphere is a cross between being at PDX and Applebee's.
Did I mention the atmosphere?
Used to be a place with some character where you were left alone to stew if that's your bag--but always interesting people camped out at the bar if you wanted to be social. Just a different feel now.
If I wanted to go to TGIFriday's I'd drive to Gresham.
Oh well. Times are a-changing!
The changes at Yorgo's are amazing! The roof doesn't drip on you, it doesn't smell like urinal cakes by the poker machines and most to all of the rif-raf has been "classed" out. The feeling in there is so much different. I think all NoPo peeps should give it a try! It seems like EVERYONE is welcome and very friendly. Lots of beers on tap and the food is on the upward scale......I mean HUMMAS at Yorgo's! Brilliant!
I quit going to this dive cause of the look and the patrons, but what a change with the new owners. It is cleaned up with new games and big screens - and damn it's good - new beers and somehow a new customer base - where did the druggies go? Adios! I will be back.
Yorgo's was recently bought out by the current owners of Mock Crest Tavern, another local watering hole in North Portland. The owners and staff kick major ass. The whole set up, really is great... as long as you can get past paying two dollars to 30 minutes of shuffle board. I got a BLT there, I swear to the god of fatty meats, I've never seen so much bacon on a sandwich in my entire life. I'll save you the full story, but my bathroom smelled smoked the next morning. Awesome.
Ok. My girlfriend lives down Greely from here. Normally on a Sunday night we'd stumble up to the Nitehawk, familiar territory for pool and stiff drinks.
This particular evening the Nitehawk was full up for some pool tournament. Not typically a big deal most nights, but we had like 6 people in tow that wanted to play pool and drink..
YORGO'S TO THE RESCUE.
At first the patrons in there for the free Monday Night Football session in HD gave us some sideways glances. I mean, wouldn't you if you were joe-every man, enjoying a frosty cold light beer and football when suddenly a group of late 20/early 30 something, tattooed, black clad weirdo's walk into your bar?
No problems. Staff was quick, friendly and efficient. Poured great drinks. and the bartender even played Bauhaus on the internet jukebox as a silent tribute to us, even though we never asked.
I have a feeling I'll be back there often. With or without the posse.
Don't you mean UP, lockie. Sorry to nitpick. Rarely see any Adidas people in there, but the again I don't really know what they look like anyway. Anyhow, a good mix of people at Yorgo's, that's for sure. Although, that may change since N. Portland is now being called "the new Southeast" or something stupid like that.
Good staff, decent people, shitty food and stiff drinks. The neighborhood mix here is great, and the "classy" resturants that have sprung up around it bring in a little of everything. Lots of college students from UO, staff from the Adidas building right next door and the usual North Portland scumfucks. Great place to get trashed on a weekend and get into an argument with crackheads out front after.
You like strong drinks? You like a huge pile of greasy fries and a toothless biker challenging you to a pool game? This is the place for you! Lots of character.
This is a divey bar with no pretense as to what it offers! Friendly service and cheap stiff drinks. It has a wide open space with a number of experienced looking regulars bellied up to the bar. I've only been on weeknights, imagine weekends probably gets a decent crowd. Nice mix of young and old boozers.
It's a pretty convenient location and has a serviceable deck out front if you want to watch traffic.
