BarFly Awards 2010: Rock the vote by text!

This year, the BarFly Awards are getting our text on, and going tree-free! All voting will be conducted via text message, between 8pm and 10pm, on Sunday, April 11th, during the BarFly Awards Gala. Even if you're among the hoi polloi who were not lucky enough to receive a coveted invitation to the social event of the season, you can still let your tiny little voice be heard, via text.

You can make a practice vote by text, right now, but no votes will be counted until 8pm on Sunday, April 11th. Any votes submitted prior to 8pm on Sunday, April 11th, will be deleted. If you make a practice vote, now, you can re-submit it anytime after 8pm on Sunday, April 11th, and it will be tallied in the final vote count at the BarFly Awards.

Full instructions for voting by text are below.

Here's a tip: If you already know who you want to vote for, compose your vote by text now, and save it as a draft for texting during the vote count, on Sunday, between 8pm and 10pm.

If you're a nominee, encourage your friends and fans to vote for you by telling them your vote code, and pointing them to this url: http://pdx.be/BFLYVOTE

HOW TO VOTE BY TEXT IN THE 2010 BARFLY AWARDS:

1. All BarFly Award voting will be done via text message. Standard text message rates apply. You will receive a reply message with a short advertisement. You will not receive any further messages, and your phone number will not be retained.

2. Votes will only be accepted and counted from 8pm-10pm, on Sunday, April 11th, 2010. Only one vote, per category, per phone, will be counted. Repeat votes will automatically be dropped from the count.

3. Below, please find the nominee list, and note the text vote code for each of the nominees you wish to vote for. You can vote in one, some, or all categories, in a single text message.  You can send also more than one text message, with different votes, but duplicate texts (with the exact same votes) will be discarded and not counted.

4. Again, you may only vote for one nominee in each category, but you can vote in as many categories as you like, at once. Please follow the instructions, below.

5. To vote, in the message, type BARFLY followed by each of the vote codes for the nominees you wish to vote for, separated by spaces (ex: BARFLY 1C 2B 3 C 4A 5B, etc.). You do not have to send all of your votes in at once, and may send as many texts as you wish. Please note, only one vote in each category will be counted. Multiple votes for the same nominee will be automatically dropped from the count.

This is what your text message should look like:

6. Send your text message to short code 41411. You will receive a reply message (or messages, depending on how many nominees you voted for) confirming your votes, along with a short, easily ignored, text ad. Your number will not be retained or reused for any purpose.

This is what the reply message will look like:

7. Remember, votes will only be accepted and counted from 8pm-10pm on Sunday, April 11, 2010. Only one vote, per category, per phone, will be counted. You do not need to be present at the BarFly Awards to vote.

8. If you wish, you may send a practice message at any time before Sunday night. Any votes received prior to 8pm on Sunday, April 11, 2010, will be discarded.  You may then vote again, for reals, yo, from 8pm-10pm on Sunday, April 11th, 2010.

9. Confused? Hate texting? Find someone under 25 to do it for you, and realize that we are saving at least one big old tree by not doing it the old fashioned, hard copy, way.
