BarFlySPAM for Friday, July 15th, 2011 - Hey, Ho, NoPo! + Bacon, Bastille Day, and Buses, oh, my!

Dearest Darlings:

This week, we're taking T.G.I.BarFly for our first visit to NoPo! On Friday, July 15th, T.G.I.BarFly pops up at Foggy Notion, with special guest deejay, DJ Rockthrower!

While DJ Rockthrower serves up heaping helpings of all things rock - butt, sludge, doom, and prog, included - Foggy Notion will be offering up a free sampling of their surprisingly good, locavore-oriented and vegetarian-friendly bar menu for your tasting pleasure.

Here's Buddy doing what he does best!

That's today, Friday, July 15th, 5pm-8pm, at Foggy Notion (3416 N Lombard). Make it, don't break it!

Here are a few hand-picked recommendations as to how to spend the rest of your weekend:

Paul Brainard and his Fun Machine Orchestra roll into the Spare Room on Friday night for a free show replete with the mighty Fun Machine horn section, and an all-star line-up of guest vocalists and players. You may have caught Paul Brainard and his Fun Machine Orchestra at one or more of BarFly's fabulous parties over the years. They're one of my personal favorites, and unless you have a big ol' hole in your soul, you'll love them, to. Bonus: the Spare Room is always a sure thing in the date department - cheap drinks, dark booths, slinky dancefloor - you cannot fail! The Spare Room is at 5028 NE 42nd (at Alberta).

Biensur, technically speaking, Thursday was Bastille Day, but Saturday's the day to get your Gallic on, at the Bastille Day Celebration and Block Party, over at Pix Patisserie's North Williams outpost. They're making a very full day of it, kicking things off at 3pm with a 'Mini Madoc Marathon' (which will be a 5K through the streets of NoPo - in true Medoc style, costumes are mandatory, and drinking lots of wine, before, during, and after, is highly encouraged!). Live bands, a wine stomping competition, champagne 'sabering' lessons (that's where you use a blade to open your champi, all fancy-like), and, of course, this being Pix, trop du chocolat! Oh, and it's also a fundraiser for Oregon Food Bank. Vive la France! You'll find Pix Patisserie North at 3901 N Williams Ave.

Enjoy the chocolate, but save some room for bacon! Saturday night, at the Ash Street Saloon, it's the first-ever Portland Bacon Cup! The bacon will be shakin' from 8pm-1am, with bacon tastings (the cover is only $5, but upgrade to 'B.I.P.' status for an additional $5 to participate in the tasting and award judging!), bacon wrestling, bacon bras, bacon art, and a fat slab of deejays and bands playing throughout the festivities (check out the line-up, here). Who's the genius behind the Portland Bacon Cup? None other than the ever-popular deejay/writer about town, Mr. Statutory Ray, of Xotic Mag's 'View from the DJ Booth' infame! That's Saturday, July 16th, 8pm-1am, at Ash Street Saloon (225 SW Ash).

Rounding out the weekend is yours truly, trotting out the tunes in the guise of DJ Meow, on Sunday night, July 17th, in the Rialto's new basement discotheque, The Jack London! It's a Laser Light Service Industry Night Dance Party, complete with the aforementioned extra-exciting laser lights, free admission for one and all, and $2.50 drinks and micros for service industrialists, all night long. It kicks off at 10pm, and cranks til 2:30am. Meowza! Click here for more info. The Rialto is at 529 SW 4th, and to get to The Jack London, you have to walk all the way to the back of the pool hall, and descend the staircase into the nether regions.
